After earning rave reviews for her portrayal as the emotionally fragile Raven Montemayor in the primetime series Viral Scandal, Kaila Estrada admits she is still getting used to all the attention to her acting.

“Honestly it can be really overwhelming. May mga times pa rin na it feels surreal. But also I’m so grateful because I feel like all my hard work is paying off,” she said. Kaila also recently headlined her first Maalaala Mo Kaya episode featuring the life story of Pinoy Big Brother celebrity housemate Karen Bordador.

As the child of celebrity parents John Estrada and Janice de Belen, Kaila shared what they think of her acting onscreen.

“Yung parents ko, I’m just really happy that they’re proud of me and that they watch the work that I do. They don’t watch it na magkakasama kami kasi hindi ko kaya (laughs) pero I’m just really glad that they’re very supportive. I think it’s my dad that gives the most feedback. Si mama hindi siya masyado nagsasalita kasi she doesn’t want me to worry about what she has to say. But my dad is super happy. He watches Viral Scandal and he’s super excited for this MMK episode as well. Lagi lang niyang sinasabi is ‘Do you best all the time in every scene. Just do your best,’” she shared.

Having been part of MMK’s International Women’s Month celebration, Kaila also shared why her mom has always been her personal hero. “I know her the best and I’ve seen everything she’s gone through and she is actually my idol. Talagang her strength being a single mother and raising five kids and being in the entertainment industry is not easy. And I super admire her for the strong woman that she is,” she admitted.

The 26-year-old actress also values her experience with strong female actresses in her projects. “It’s so great to be with such strong women. I feel like our voices are being heard. We are being accepted if in the past we weren’t. It’s great to see that we actually have an all-female cast here. Our sensitivity is our strength. Nakakatuwa makita yung evolution ng women and to be in a community of such empowered women,” she added.

With the national elections coming up, Kaila also shared what she thinks voters should keep in mind especially after working on her MMK episode which deals with the country’s penal system.

“Choose the right people to lead our country is one way to do it. Prison shouldn’t be for punishment but more for rehabilitation because we want the people in our society to improve. And we want them to learn and be better. We don’t want them to suffer. It’s definitely important because we all want to be in a society we’re were treated with respect and that is the type of mentality that we’re going to pass on to our children in the future generations so I do think that’s it’s very important,” she explained.
