Former Kapamilya actor Marco Gumabao spoke up about having to mature quickly after his father Dennis Roldan, whose real name is Mitchell Gumabao, was arrested on kidnapping charges. He talked his life before he entered the showbiz industry during an interview with veteran columnist and talent manager Ogie Diaz.

Marco recalled the unfortunate night when he was the only one amongst his siblings who personally witnessed how their father was arrested back in 2005. This was the first time that he opened up in an interview about what he went through.

“Looking back, yes it was a traumatic experience kasi ako lang nakakita sa lahat ng magkakapatid kung paano hinuli yung tatay ko. Kung paano siya kinuha from the house,” he revealed.

The 29-year-old actor remembered that it was around 5 in the morning when 30 policemen surrounded their home and forced their way inside––going as far as breaking all their doors.

“Alam mo yung panira ng mga door sa banko, ganun yung ginamit nila…Sana nalang nag doorbell nalang kayo pinagbuksan naman namin kayo. Lahat ng pintuan namin sinira nila––as in lahat, walang pinto na hindi sinira,” he added.

Marco and his mother were forced to hide inside the bathroom as Dennis was being handcuffed by the police. He admitted that he had the urge to fight back but was unable to do so because of his young age.

The actor shared how everything that happened affected him in school as well. He recalled getting mocked by other students for being a child of a kidnapper which he didn’t take lightly.

“During that time, hindi iyak yung nafi-feel ko––rage eh. I think dala-dala ko siya for the longest time. Inaapi-api ako sa school, ‘ah anak ng kidnapper yan.’ Napapa-away ako dati sa school,” he said.

Marco used this unfortunate experience as a chance to grow and become stronger. He acknowledged that it wasn’t only his family that was affected by this issue as well.

“You can’t tell people to just move on. Kasi syempre may pamilya rin na naagrabyado. Of course sila rin, may hinanakit sila, may hurts din sila towards the whole group na involved. Kami as a family, we have to look forward or past it but we can’t say ‘forget it,’” he said.
