From a chance meeting three years ago to being serious and steady now, Robi Domingo admitted his relationship with non-showbiz girlfriend Maiqui Pineda was one of the happiest unexpected surprises to happen in his life. In an Live With G3 interview this month, the Kapamilya host looked back on how it all started.

“We met during a party in ABS-CBN and walang tao na dumating. I think that was one of the parties na pagod yata lahat ng talents, pagod lahat ng creatives so only a handful of people attended and it was only because of Piolo Pascual who told me, kasi sobrang pagod na pagod na kaming lahat, I was going to go home already coming from Araneta Coliseum and then my handler tita Lulu (Romero) told Piolo, ‘Andiyan si Robi’ and Piolo called me up asking, ‘Saan ka pupunta?’ Sabi ko, ‘Uuwi na ako, Papa P,’ and he said, ‘Mahiya ka naman. Respeto naman sa mga boss na nagbigay sa ‘yo ng trabaho. Dumaan ka lang dito.’

“And then I went to that location and then wala naman akong intentions at all, promise. And then I saw a batchmate of mine na nandun. We talked at around 1 am and then we finished at around 5 am nonstop talking. She just came from a breakup and ako parang tapos na ako sa stage na yan, parang almost one year na ako. Gusto mo iparamdam ko sa ‘yo yung mga na-experience ko? So I had no intentions at all. 2017 was like the worst and best year of my life. Until I met Maiqui,” he said.

With his girlfriend coming from a very private family, Robi shared with host G3 San Diego how they are able to travel abroad together.

“Whenever I travel with Maiqui, it’s with family naman, with her family all the time. Usually when that happens, she has like a family friend or she has family kung saan kami pupunta. And ako din. So we will meet somewhere after. Ganun yung setup. May kaakibat na responsibility din kasi parang you get to enjoy the moments and also you put yourself in a position na sige nga, i-test nga natin. So I’m that kind of person na sinasadya to piss you off. Just to test kung how would you react to this kind of situation and she passed. She was patient enough, parang there was one time I wanted to go on that rollercoaster but she was hungry and she said, ‘Sige go have fun first. Let’s enjoy this moment kasi sayang.’ Yung mga ganung klaseng bagay, very petty stuff. I’m super happy with her,” he explained.

Because of the ongoing pandemic for more than a year now, Robi said he considers his relationship with Maiqui as a long-distance relationship (LDR).

“Honestly it feels like LDR right now. Lalong lalo na I live in Quezon city and she’s in Makati. LDR para sa akin yun. Sobrang hirap. There are moments na kapag GCQ and I don’t have work naman, I get myself tested, and I would drive there. Tagal din, traffic din. Siguro it’s just a phase. You always have to remember why you’re in this relationship and why and how you feel in love. We just click. Everything that I do right now she gets entertained eh. Even me when she says ‘hi’ in the morning, I feel like my day is complete already. Ganun. Hearing her voice it’s so calming. I don’t know. I got the best support system right now lalo na when we play Mobile Legends together or even Pokemon Unite. She understands me and that’s the best thing about Maiqui,” he explained.

As for his previous relationship with former ABS-CBN host Gretchen Ho, Robi shared how they have both moved on already from the past.

“I got to attend this workshop a while ago with Mr. Anthony Pangilinan. We’re cooking up something for Star Magic so we’re good. I think more than the emotions, there are lessons to be learned and we adapted to the situation and we moved forward for the best. She got to go to the Olympics. She got to cover that and nakaka-proud,” he says.
