Actress Liza Soberano revealed why she became interested in being part of her upcoming international film — Lisa Frankenstein — which also marks her Hollywood debut.

In a question-and-answer video posted by Universal Pictures Philippines, Liza answered actor James Reid's question about why she was interested in joining the coming-of-age international film.

“When I first started working with you (James), you asked me what it is that I wanted to do, and I told you I wanted to go to Hollywood,” Liza said, recalling the time she signed up with James Reid’s agency Careless in 2022.

“And then after that you were asking me what type of projects I was hoping to do. What I had discussed with you at that time was I wanted to portray a high school student or a teenager. And aside from that, you asked me what genres I really wanna work on, and I told you that I have never done a horror or thriller, so I said I want to do that,” the 26-year-old actress stated.

She also noted how she wanted her first Hollywood film to be not too unfamiliar to her fans as she transitioned into an international career.

“I don't want to be too unfamiliar or shocking to my fanbase in the Philippines because it’s a huge transition to me, so I don’t want them to be completely like surprised by what I’m doing, so I said 'Even if it’s a horror or thriller and even if it is a little more mature than what they used to seeing me do, I want it to have a good romantic or comedy aspect that way it’s not too unfamiliar,'” the former Kapamilya actress said.

Liza then expressed that the Lisa Frankenstein movie felt like it was the perfect one for her.

“And so, when I read the script for Lisa Frankenstein, it was everything that I hoped and dreamed for to be able to do and it was all in one project,” she happily remarked.

The actress also answered her reel-to-real partner Enrique Gil’s question about her character Taffy in the film.

“Hi, Quenito! Thank you for that question even if you know what happened in the story,” Liza laughingly said.

“I played Taffy. I played Lisa’s step sister, and I’m just the ever supportive sister who wants to earn the love and trust of her sister, but I’m making it pretty hard for her to love me, and so we go to our little, our own journey of understanding what our relationship means to each of us,” the actress answered.

Starring alongside her are actors Kathryn Newton, Cole Sprouse, and Jenna Davis.

Directed by Zelda Williams and written by Oscar and Tony winner Diablo Cody, the upcoming film is set to be released on Wednesday, February 7.

Meanwhile, Liza also answered Golden Globe nominee Dolly De Leon’s question about how exciting it is for her to expand her career.

“The feeling that I got after the trailer of Lisa Frankenstein dropped, para akong nabunutan ng tinik. It felt like the past two years that were the most difficult, I would say, career-wise, for me, suddenly (it) became worth it,” Liza said.

The actress also revealed that she was inspired by Filipino actors and actresses such as Dolly, who started to pave their way to the international industry after being part of Ruben Östlund's satirical black comedy film Triangle of Sadness in 2022.

“I was inspired by people like you (Dolly De Leon) who are constantly trying to push the envelope, striving for greatness in everything that you do, and I wanted that for myself to do so, here we are now, Miss Dolly,” she expressed.

She also added: “I am proud to say that both of us are part of the large community of Filipino people that are trying to represent our country and make our Filipinos proud.”
