Miles Ocampo opened up about her thyroid scare last year.

In an interview with Karen Davila, Miles shared the signs and symptoms that she felt when she discovered that she had a cancerous thyroid problem.

"Nung time na 'yun parang una sa lahat 'yung weight ko hindi naman ako sobrang kumakain, nagi-Pilates naman ako, bakit ganito, bakit hindi ako pumapayat talaga? Tapos ang bilis ko mapagod, after work uuwi na ako talaga matutulog ako, tapos magigising ako ng madaling araw kasi parang hindi ako makahinga," she recalled.

The actress also noticed that time that there was a lump on her neck.

"Eh takot ako sa needles, takot ako sa ospital, takot ako sa ganyan so nung naramdaman ko 'yun parang may hindi na tama. Visible kasi siya that time, meronng bukol na visible," she said.

Miles underwent surgery to remove her thyroid glands.

"It was malignant and ang laki na niya. Kung hindi ko siya naagapan, posible talagang kumalat," she said.

In her post last April 2023, Miles revealed that she had Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma. According to emedicine.medscape.com, Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is "the most common form of well-differentiated thyroid cancer, and the most common form of thyroid cancer to result from exposure to radiation. Papillary carcinoma appears as an irregular solid or cystic mass or nodule in a normal thyroid parenchyma."

Following her operation, the actress also underwent radiation treatment.

"After my operation, may mga naiwan pang cancer cells, medyo kumalat so nag-radiation pa ako pero oral lang that time," she relayed.

Miles relayed that she is now cancer-free.

"I am cancer-free but 'yun na nga maintenance for life, meds ko habang buhay na siya and dun na ako naka-base, kumbaga 'yung weight ko rin dun na siya magbe-base kung tataba o papayat kasi every two months kailangan ko magpa-blood test para i-check kung ia-adjust 'yung dosage," she shared.

Her thyroid problem affected her weight which Miles admitted became a concern for her before.

"Lalo na 'yung mga time after my operation, after kasi talagang nag-bloat talaga... Ayaw ko talagang lumabas, lahat ng damit ko walang magkasya so depressing. Hanggang sa umabot na lang ako dun sa point na ay napapagod na ako ma-depress dahil sa weight ko, napapagod na ako isipin kung ano sasabihin ng ibang tao. Parang one day okay na ako, wala na akong pake kung anong sasabihin niyo sa weight ko kasi alam ko naman kung ano ang totoo," she remarked.

While battling her thyroid scare, Miles said that faith became her greatest weapon.

"Nung mga times na 'yun na it was so uncertain, hindi mo alam kung anong mangyayari, just trust Him. Kapit ka lang sa kanya, talk to Him," she said.
