Disney animated movie Moana is set to have a live-action remake.

On Tuesday, April 4, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson announced that he is set to produce the film.

"Humbled to say we’re bringing #MOANA’s beautiful story to the live action big screen! #MAUI changed my life (miss you grandpa) and I’m honored to partner with  @DisneyStudios to tell our story thru the realm of music & dance, which at the core is who we are as Polynesian people🪝," Dwayne posted on his Twitter page alongside a pre-recorded video shot in Hawaii.

"This story is my culture, and this story is emblematic of our people’s grace and warrior strength," the actor remarked as reported by Deadline.

He added: "I wear this culture proudly on my skin and in my soul, and this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reunite with Maui, inspired by the mana and spirit of my late grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia, is one that runs very deep for me."

He also extended his gratitude to Disney for giving him the opportunity to make the live-action film happen.

"I want to thank my partners at Disney for their strong commitment to this special endeavor, because there is no better world for us to honor the story of our people, our passion and our purpose than through the realm of music and dance, which is at the core of who we are as Polynesian people," he remarked.

Fans were also quick to express their excitement about the live-action project.

"Huge news! Loved Moana, one of my all time favorite animated movies, super excited for the live action movie! Excited to see Rock perform ‘You’re Welcome‘ in live action 😊🙌," one fan posted on Twitter.

"Perfect casting all over again. The Rock back on top!" another fan posted.

Dwayne was the voice actor behind the demigod Maui in the animated film. The movie made more than $680 million at the box office and bagged two Oscar nominations.
