“I hope she goes through whatever she’s going through,” said singer-actor Juan Karlos “JK” Labajo.

This was his response to ex-girlfriend Maureen Wroblewitz’s TikTok video which went viral a month ago. The model gave her followers a glimpse into her private life when she bared her feelings about her previous relationship.

“I have lost myself over the past few years,” Maureen admitted. “I'm finally realizing who I really am. I am working on myself and healing from past trauma because I don't want to make the same mistakes.”

While Maureen did not drop any names, her last known relationship was with was JK. They went public with their relationship in 2019, but rumors about them go as far back as 2017. The celebrity couple decided to part ways in June 2022.

Maureen didn’t really say much after their split. When she posted photos during her birthday trip to Bohol, she simply stated that she opted to keep silent for her own peace.

“Maybe one day I’ll be ready to speak about it because I know it could help a lot of people,” she said.

In her viral post, Maureen reacted to the song “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus, saying that the song resonated with her.

“I've never really spoken about my past relationship but this song really speaks to me,” Maureen said.

The curiosity of netizens was piqued about the truth about Maureen and JK’s relationship, especially since it has been speculated that Miley’s song threw shade at her ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth.

“That's the thing about being in a public relationship, no one really knows what happens behind closed doors,” Maureen added.

In a later interview, Maureen gave more context about her TikTok post.

“It was really about me,” she said. “But of course it’s like if I was going to speak my truth, people will kind of analyze it differently or think maybe it’s this and this and this.”

“I don’t want to talk about my past person,” Maureen added. “And because I know he wouldn’t want to do that to me as well. And I wouldn’t want to put him in a negative light but I just wanted to speak my truth because up to now I’m still healing and I just lost such a big part of me and so I’m trying to gain her back.”

During an interview with PEP, JK clarified that he did not take offense at Maureen’s video and that he harbors no hard feelings towards his former girlfriend.

“I mean, at the end naman, between us, we’re on good terms naman,” said JK.

Late last year, Maureen was seen in Siargao in the company of a yet-unidentified guy. While she did confirm that she was dating again, she also clarified that she wasn’t in a rush to get into anything serious just yet.

“I’m taking it slow. And really focusing on what I need and what I want before I jump into another relationship,” said Maureen.

Even with this, JK maintained that he only has good wishes for Maureen.

“That’s good. That’s good for her,” said JK. “I just want what’s best for her and that she’s happy.”

For his part, JK admitted that he is also open to the idea of a new relationship, but he is also not in rush to do so. At this point, he is more focused on his family and his career.

“Yeah, of course naman. But at the same time, it’s always nice to just focus on the people around you, your family and your career,” he explained. “Masaya ako sa sitwasyon ko sa buhay ngayon.”

While primarily known for his music, JK has also dabbled in acting. His last TV project was in the 2017 ABS-CBN series, A Love To Last

He was recently busy working on his latest movie project, Ako Si Ninoy, where he plays the role of the late Senator Benigno Aquino II. The movie just had its premiere night and is expected to start showing in cinemas on February 22.

“Especially in the beginning of this year, we really focused on this project,” shared JK. “You can expect the best outcome when you focus on one thing at a time.”

This musical film was directed and produced by Atty. Vince Tañada, the same person behind the movie Katips. He actually created the musical back in 2008. JK is joined by fellow young actors Cassy Legaspi, Marlo Mortel, and Joaquin Domagoso, among others.

"I just wish we can help with battling misinformation and people trying to change our real history,” said JK. “This is for the future of our children, and children's children. Sana na-justify ko yung pagganap ko ng role.”

As for future projects, JK admitted that he has some more movies as well as new music in the works.

“I have some opportunities that came in, some Cinemalaya projects again, and definitely some other films that I can’t disclose any information yet,” he shared. “But then, I’m working on an album as well. Bouncing between music and acting.”
