Singer-actor Janno Gibbs spoke on behalf of his family to confirm the passing of their patriarch, the late veteran actor Ronaldo Valdez. He shared the statement on his Instagram account a few hours after the Quezon City Police District confirmed the actor's death.

Ronaldo passed away on December 17 at the age of 77. He is survived by his wife, Maria Fe Ilagan Gibbs, and their two children, Janno and Melissa.

“It is with great sorrow that I confirm my father’s passing,” Janno wrote.

However, Janno didn’t disclose or confirm the cause of the late actor’s death. He likewise asked the public to respect their privacy.

“The family would like to request that you respect our privacy in our grieving moment. Your prayers and condolences are much appreciated,” Janno said.

Details of the funeral have not yet been announced by the family. It is unclear whether there will be a public viewing for fans, or if it will be for friends and family only.

Meanwhile, celebrities and fans expressed their condolences in the comments section of Janno’s post.

“My deepest condolences 🙏 prayers to the whole family,” Vina Morales wrote.

“Deepest condolences and prayers Sir at sa buong pamilya,” It’s Showtime host Jhong Hilario added.

Ronaldo rose to fame after being discovered by the King of Comedy Dolphy in the late 70’s. Since then, he has acted in several movies and television series and has become an iconic figure in the Philippine entertainment industry.

His last work on TV was the hit series KathNiel-starrer 2 Good 2 Be True, wherein he played the role of Lolo Sir.

Kathryn Bernardo was among those who paid tribute to Ronaldo, with the former posting photos of the memories she shared with the veteran actor in a series of Instagram stories.

Prior to his death, it was revealed by Janno –– during his birthday last November –– that they will be releasing a movie together this January.

Janno also directed the film.
