Singer-songwriter Jason Marvin Hernandez has debuted a new single, “Ako Nalang”, his first song since his breakup with his wife, hitmaker Moira dela Torre, last May.

The track was composed, arranged, and produced by Jason himself. It was released on Wednesday, September 14, along with an accompanying music video on YouTube.

“Ito ang mga salita, linya, at nota na nagligtas sakin; noong mga gabing nakakalunod yung lungkot at nakakabingi ang pagsisisi. Ito ang mga tanong na umiikot sa isip ko noong mga madaling araw na nawawala ako. Ito ang awitin na nakasama ko sa pinaka madilim na oras ng buhay ko,” Jason said of the song on Instagram.

“Ako Nalang” could very well be his song for Moira, with its heartbreaking lyrics that go: “Nangako tayo na pang habangbuhay ang pagsasamang ‘to, inaamin ko sa ‘yo, na kasalanan ko ito, tanggap ko nang ayaw mo na, patawad at nasaktan ka.”

He also referenced their song “Ikaw at Ako” and Moira’s “Patawad, Paalam” towards the latter part of the song. “Dito pala matatapos ang Ikaw at Ako. Maraming salamat sa lahat ng mga alaala mo. Sana ang aking kasunod ay maibigay lahat ng pagkukulang ko. Paalam, patawad sa iyo.”

It was in late May, amid rumors surrounding their marriage, when Jason confirmed his separation from Moira, confessing that he had been unfaithful to her.

“This is probably the hardest thing I’ve ever had to write. But since you guys have been with us from the start, it is only right that you hear this straight from me. 3 years ago, I married my best friend with the intent of spending the rest of my life with her. Though my love for her has always been genuine, a few months ago, I confessed to Moira that I have been unfaithful to her during our marriage,” he said.

He added, "I believe that she deserved to know the truth rather than continue down a 'peaceful' but dishonest path. I take full responsibility and I’m doing my best to be better. From the bottom of my heart, I’m sorry for everyone I hurt. Especially Moi."

Shortly before their separation, Jason and Moira collaborated on a few tracks, including “Kumpas” and “Babalik Sa ‘Yo,” which they wrote for the hit ABS-CBN series 2 Good 2 Be True.
