As he gears up for his television comeback next month in the new kapamilya sweetcom My Papa Pi, Piolo Pascual said it feels good to be back in front of the camera.

“I guess I got excited working because it’s been more than two years since my last TV gig na regular. So talagang parang bata ulit learning new things. Sobra siyang welcome change sa break ng routine mo. Masaya lang. Wala namang nagbago. Marami lang kasama ngayon,” he shared during the My Papa Pi mediacon.

With the show set in the fictional Mapag-Asa street, My Papa Pi revolves around the lives of Pipoy (Piolo), a single dad who wants a better future for his daughter; his twin brother Popoy (Pepe Herrera); and Tere (Pia Wurtzbach), a woman is Popoy’s one great love but has feelings for Pipoy. Piolo said he was happy to take on a lighthearted role for a change.

“To step out of the box, to do something different and challenging to get out of your comfort zone, it’s always nice to portray something na hindi mo pa nagagawa so it always excites me when I get to discover stuff about what I do or how I can make myself better in terms of execution and output. I guess this is really my passion so I just keep on growing and learning and getting there,” he explained.

During the show’s mediacon, the kapamilya heartthrob finally revealed where his popular nickname first came from.

“It started with Ms. Ai-Ai (Delas Alas) sa Magandang Tanghali Bayan. I was a guest one time and then she called me papa Pi and I called her mama Ai and then it just stuck sa ABS-CBN. Even the cameramen were calling me papa P. So at first nakakatawa di ba? Pero habang tumatanda ka, kesa tawagin kang tito, okay na yung papa Pi (laughs). Pag tinatawag kang tito nakakatanda eh. So at least sabi ko okay rin pala yung papa Pi. Okay na yun (laughs). Pero it’s really overwhelming you know. Nakakatuwa lang because at least you know it’s a term of endearment. So pag may naiilang akong tawagin sa pangalan, yun na lang. Okay na rin yun,” he explained.

Piolo admitted it took him some time to get used to the fact that everyone iwas calling him by his nickname.

“Actually at first it was really awkward. Kasi pag mga babae tumawag sa ‘yo ng papa Pi, especially yung mga bata okay lang di ba? Pero kasi umabot sa punto na yung mga cameraman ganun tawag sa akin. So napagtanto ko na siguro out of respect na rin sige ibigay na lang natin sa mga tao. Tanggap ko na lang na may show na tayong ganun,” he added.

Watch My Papa Pi every Saturday, 7 pm starting March 5 on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, A2Z, iWantTFC, and TFC. Follow Star Creatives on Twitter , Facebook, and Instagram for more exciting announcements about the show, which will be coming soon this March on various ABS-CBN platforms.
