John Arcilla was hailed as Best Actor at the 78th Venice Film Festival for his role in the movie On the Job: The Missing 8.
A pre-recorded video of John was played at the awarding ceremony in Italy after he was proclaimed the winner.
"If there is something I really regret tonight, it is I won't be able to kiss my own Volpi cup there in the middle of Venice and on that red carpet just like all other 77 actors who I admire who have kissed their own prestigious award one actor could ever have," John remarked in the video.
He also highlighted in his speech on how filmmaking has bound people from different parts of the world.
"I know we came from different countries and we have different languages and culture, yet I can feel the oneness tonight, and I can feel that you understand me and we understand each other just because of the art of cinema. So thank you so much," he stated.
John's Volci cup was received by the film's director Erik Matti who attended the festival.
John plays the role of a journalist named Sisoy Salas in the movie.
The film revolves around the story of uncovering the truth behind the disappearance of eight individuals linked to a newspaper.
