Starring in TBA Studios’ latest offering Dito at Doon, Janine Gutierrez said being paired for the first time onscreen with JC Santos was a good experience. Janine plays the role of no-boyfriend-since-birth student Len who unexpectedly finds a connection online with a delivery rider named Cabs played by JC.
“Sobrang okay si JC. Tsaka lang ako kumalma nung dumating na siya sa set eh. Sobrang okay siya talaga katrabaho. At dami ko rin talagang natutunan sa kanya,” she said during the Dito at Doon virtual mediacon held last March 29.
The film also marks a milestone in Janine’s life as she gets to work with her mom Lotlot de Leon for the first time onscreen.
“Parang feeling ko I have to step up kapag si mama yung ka-eksena ko dahil nga nanay ko siya and lahat naman ng ginagawa ko ay para maging proud siya. On one hand it’s easier dahil nanay ko siya. On the other hand, it’s hard kasi nanay ko siya (laughs). Pero it was very fun. Na-appreciate ko na talagang ginawan niya ng paraan na magawa niya yung pelikula sa schedule niya at lahat,” she shared.
The 31-year-old actress admitted she was initially nervous to act naturally in front of her mom.
“Kinabahan ako eh (laughs). Mas kinabahan ako. Ewan ko ba. It was hard for me. I don’t know. Mas na-feel ko siya nung napapanuod ko na. Even kasi with my siblings, lahat kami pag papasok si mama tapos parang alanganin yung sitwasyon yung kapatid ko umiyak or ganyan. So parang onscreen parang nakaka-affect siya for me. Pero while shooting it, parang kinakabahan ako. Parang tinulungan talaga ako ni direk JP (Habac) sa eksena na yun. Na-sa-starstruck siguro ako sa nanay ko,” she explained.
In the film, Lotlot plays a medical frontliner who continues to go to work everyday despite the pandemic while her daughter stays at home. Janine said one of her most memorable scenes in the film was when art imitated life when her mom asked her about the new man in her life.
“Basta tinanong ako ng nanay ko kung sino ang bago kong kaibigan tapos yung mukha niya ganito. Ganun talaga siya tumingin sa totoong buhay. Marami talagang naka-relate so iba talaga yung mga nanau noh. May psychic powers sila. Alam nila kapag meron kang iniibig. Kung makatingin yung nanay iba talaga and yung nanay ko ganyan talaga kaya medyo kinilabutan ako nung pinanuod ko,” she recalled.
