After spending more than a year in Bali, Indonesia last year during the pandemic, Maxene Magalona admitted that she seriously considered quitting Philippine showbiz and just focus on her journey as a new yoga and meditation teacher.

“Yes, definitely especially when you find yourself in a crossroad in your life where parang napapaisip ka. Dumating talaga yung question na yun sa akin na if ever man I was at a point in my life where I was telling myself, if ever hindi na ako magkaroon ulit ng offers sa pag-aartista, okay lang sa akin. Tanggap ko kumbaga. I’m at a time in my life right now where I am learning to do my work but also to surrender to God’s plan.

“So nung time na yun na wala sa isip ko yung magkaka-offer ba ako or ano, I wasn’t really pressuring myself or I wasn’t thinking about it. Biglang dumating itong show na ‘to sabi ko, ‘Wow feeling ko parang meant to be.’ So sabi ko nung time na yun hindi ko tatanggihan kasi blessing and at the same time feeling ko it was a sign from God that kailangan ko ipagpatuloy ito and I really do love acting,” she said.

The 34-year-old actress said doing yoga training and practice daily during her stay in Bali with husband Rob Mananquil actually helped her improve as an actress.

“I’m at a point in my life right now where I just want to be able to apply everything that I’ve been learning through yoga and meditation in terms of connecting with my emotions. Kasi dati when I was acting I wasn’t really as open as a human and I wasn’t really as connected to my emotions. So now that I am, I am so looking forward to just stepping on set and having this new mindset, this new attitude and hopefully I will be able to translate that as Audrey Ramones and sana magustuhan ng mga tao. I’ also very, very blessed to be surrounded by the best actors and cast, crew, staff, lahat talaga. Parang everything here is just falling into place everyday and it just feels so amazing to just be surrounded by this kind of energy right now.,” she explained.

Currently teaching yoga classes online, Maxene shared how she is different when she is teaching her students versus her as an actress on the set.

“When I am a yoga and meditation teacher kasi, basically I’m still me but I’m just saying more informative words that will help the student. So ganito pa rin, ako pa rin ito pero siguro a little bit more calm. If you can imagine, a little bit more peaceful, and definitely a little bit more open when it comes to talking about yoga and meditation. I know it’s hard to imagine but try na lang (laughs),” she said.
