Philippine music channel MYX has finally returned. In its new era, it hopes to celebrate music inside and outside the country and bring it closer to today’s generation.

In a media conference on Thursday, August 29, ABS-CBN Global managing director Maribel Hernaez shared how today’s global music scene is a good platform for Filipino music.

“I’ve seen how MYX evolved over the years. It is so thrilling to see what MYX is right now, because after the pandemic or shortly after the pandemic has been a very very good time not only for Philippine music, OPM music, P-pop but also for Filipinos crossing over to the global stage,” Maribel said.

“I think ‘yung ginawa sa atin ng pandemic is it made our world literally smaller because everybody got hooked on social media and then suddenly everything is accessible. It is easy to cross over boundaries.”

She added, “It was a very very good opportunity for Philippine music and a very very good opportunity as well for MYX because during that time when things are changing, MYX was also changing.”

Maribel also shared what prompted the beloved music channel to rebrand into something that caters to the fast-changing and evolving industry of global music scene.

“We have a new tagline. It’s called “the beat of our culture” because right now, when we talk about Philippine music, we don’t just talk about ourselves but we also talk about Filipinos who are living outside the Philippines who are making a name for themselves as Filipinos and as artists,” she remarked.

“MYX is everywhere, is in the middle of things. We are a platform, a venue for communities to interact and engage. MYX continues to be an experience for the young audiences. It’s really an exciting era for MYX,” she continued.

MYX has been known as a music channel that introduces Filipino music through daily and weekly charts as well as featuring artists since they aired in 2000.

When asked if they would be retaining their popular segments that fans came to love through the years, Maribel told PUSH that they will be putting the segments back, but in a new and improved style.

“We’re launching MYX YouTube Live because we all know that everybody is just hooked on YouTube these days. Dati inaabangan natin yung MYX Countdown sa TV and sa cable channels, but now we are bringing it back on YouTube Live,” she said.

She added, “Mayroon ulit bagong aabangan ang lahat ng mga music aficionados and music fans, kung sino ang top charters natin for the week or for the day.”

Maribel also expressed how the channel aims to also give the experience that the older generation of the music channel enjoyed to the younger generation.

“It’s something to really look forward to because hindi pwedeng ‘yung mga naunang era lang ng MYX ang mag-eenjoy ng core memory na iyon. We want that core memory to be available to all the young ones today,” she shared with PUSH. “We want that experience to be shared by the new generation.”
