Johnny first gained attention for his song covers of famous songs such as Shawn Mendes’s “Stitches” and Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood.”

In 2022, he released his debut album all the things that could go wrong, which has since amassed over 150 million streams globally and includes songs like “leave the light on,” “you’re just drunk,” “till i met you,” and “fun out of it.”

His latest album, The Ride, will begin dropping this July 28 with songs “Boyfriend” and “July.” In an Instagram post, Johnny said that “The Ride” will be released in 3 parts. “The Ride is a story of love, hate, confusion & hope,” he wrote, adding, “There is no greater thrill than falling in love.”

Johnny, 20, first visited the country for a fan gathering in Manila in August 2022. In a video feature for UMUSIC Philippines, the artist talked about his experience interacting with his fans in the Philippines.

“I was hoping that the people here were as nice as the Filipinos that I know in Canada, and they absolutely are. That has been, like, the best part. Everybody’s so cool,” he said.

“It blows my mind how curious everyone is and how nice they are and how amazing the fans are in here. So that’s been the highlight of my trip so far,” he added.

He also described his Filipino fans as “passionate.”

Johnny also performed with Filipino singer-songwriter Zack Tabudlo at a mall show held at the Venice Grand Canal Mall in Taguig. The two recently collaborated on the song “Someone will love you better.”
