Filipina actress Janella Salvador and Thai actor Win Metawin are teaming up for a big screen project.

The two stars are set to headline the upcoming romance film Under Parallel Skies, to be directed by Sigrid Bernardo (Kita Kita, Untrue), it was announced on Monday, July 17.

Set in Hong Kong, Under Parallel Skies follows the story of a man struggling from a painful past. As he tries to move forward, he later discovers that the present woman in his life is connected to his past.

The movie is produced by Richard Juan’s 28 Squared Studios in partnership with Hong Kong’s Two Infinity Entertainment productions.

Principal photography for the film started last month in Hong Kong, featuring the country’s nostalgic neighborhoods, outlying islands, and some of the city’s popular attractions. A traditional film shoot opening ceremony with the lead stars and crew was held prior to the filming.

Under Parallel Skies is poised to be one of the most exciting cross-country film collaborations in Asia this year. In a statement, Sigrid said, “With this cross-country collaboration, the actors can bring their own unique skill sets and experiences, which can help enrich the story and give more authenticity to the characters they play.

“I aim to create a film that celebrates the unique identities and traditions of each culture while also exploring common themes and experiences that unite us as human beings.”

Richard described the film as an “exploration of human connections in a world where cultures collide and mingle every day.”

“Our goal is to deliver an experience that bridges cultures and emotions. As Win and Janella breathe life into their characters, we are confident that they will create an engaging narrative, highlighting the nuances and complexities that come with cross-cultural relationships,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kristhoff Cagape, COO and co-founder of 28 Squared Studios, said the film aims to put more stories from Asia into the global spotlight.

“It has been our main mission to champion regional stories and bring them to the global scene. We hope to continue fulfilling this mission with Under Parallel Skies,” he said.

“Through this film, we aim to present an authentic portrayal of the realities of our world today, where cultural boundaries blur and intersect more than ever,” he said.

Win is known to Filipino audiences for his roles in the hit Thai series 2gether: The Series and F4 Thailand: Boys Over Flowers. He’s also a recording artist and a renowned fashion model. Under Parallel Skies marks his first international film.

Meanwhile, Janella is one of the best actresses of her generation. She recently starred as Valentina in the hit ABS-CBN series Mars Ravelo’s Darna. Her last big screen project was the 2019 horror film The Heiress.

Further details about Under Parallel Skies, such as its other cast members and release date, have yet to be announced as of writing.
