Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera will headline Rewind, an upcoming film co-produced by ABS-CBN Film Productions Inc.’s Star Cinema, APT Entertainment, and AgostoDos Pictures. 

ABS-CBN Film Productions Inc. head Kriz Gazmen highlighted the important milestone Rewind has already reached, describing it as a project one never thought would happen. 

“This year, for ABS-CBN in particular, has been a year of collaborations. This is one of the many collaborations that we’re doing. So I’m just very, very proud because this is a film that you never thought would happen. ‘Di ba? A collaboration na parang years in the making kung alam niyo lang ‘yung behind the scenes kung paano siya nangyari,” Kriz said. 

Box office director Mae Cruz-Alviar revealed that the project came about in 2020, but had to be postponed due to the pandemic. But for Mae, the project couldn’t have come at a more perfect time. 

“I think ‘yun ‘yung isa sa mga exciting parts. Na alam mong ang tagal and yet, here we are, we’re launching it now, and it’s the time for it. Kumbaga, in God’s perfect time,” Direk Mae said. 

Dingdong and Marian also shared why they said yes to the project despite their busy schedules. Yan, for one, said she knew she couldn’t let it pass the moment she laid her eyes on the script.

“Bawat kwento sa akin, bawat paglipat ko ng pahina doon sa script, parang walang tapon sa script eh. Walang dahilan para hindi ko ito gawin — especially alam ni [Dong] na every time na magak-partner kami [sa isang project], meron kaming moment na mas tumitibay kami. ‘Ah may ganun pala siya’ so may bagong nadi-discover sa kanya na lalo akong na-iin love,” Marian said. 

“Sabi ni Direk sa’kin, ‘Yan, may soap ka, may ganito ka, sure ka?’ Sabi ko ‘Hindi, gagawin ko ‘yan kahit mahirapan ako sa schedule,’” she added. 

Dingdong, on the other hand, said he and Marian have always wanted to do a project that both of them would be proud of — and Rewind is that project. 

“Siyempre bukod sa makakasama ko siya, makaka-collaborate ko ang mga mahuhusay na creators, eh ang gusto na rin namin na pinipili namin ay maging proud kami sa mga anak namin. Ganitong klaseng pelikula at kwento ang gusto naming ibahagi sa mga manonood. And it is a family movie,” Dingdong said.

Seconding her husband, Marian added: “Sa madaling salita, ito ‘yung klase ng pelikula na alam naming magiging proud ‘yung mga anak namin sa amin.”

Dingdong is no stranger to working with Star Cinema, having worked with Angel Locsin, Angelica Panganiban, and Zanjoe Marudo in the 2012’s One More Try. He reunited with Angelica for The Unmarried Wife in 2016. He starred alongside Enrique Gil and Bea Alonzo in 2013’s She’s The One as well as Seven Sundays where he worked alongside Cristine Reyes, Aga Muhlach, and Ronaldo Valdez. Dingdong also reunited with Enrique in the latter.

When asked what she feels about doing a project with Star Cinema, Marian said that she always wanted to do a project with the country’s leading film outlet considering all the stories Dingdong shared with her about working with them — especially with Direk Mae — in the past.

“Sobrang excited. And at the same time, kay Direk. Kasi si Dong, ang daming kwento tungkol sa kanya. Sabi ko nga kay Dong ‘Sana balang araw ma-direk din niya ko.’ Kasi punong-puno ng pangarap ‘yung kwento ni Dong sa akin every time na mag-Star Cinema siya. So sabi ko, ‘Sana balang araw,’” Marian said.

Dingdong, for his part, admitted that it’s always just a good experience working with the movie outfit. “Siyempre always a good experience. Kaya magkakaalaman na. Very very soon.”

Meanwhile, Direk Mae said he’s also excited to work with both Dingdong and Marian on the project which she teased is really something people should watch out for.

“Pero the experience nga working with Dong before, parang gusto mong maulit. That’s why I’m excited na it’s not just with him, but also with his wife Yan. It’s an event film, it’s an event project. So sinong hihindi sa project na ‘to? So ano siya, sobrang something to look forward to,” Direk Mae said.

Giving fans a glimpse of what the film is all about without spoiling anything, Direk Mae said: “It’s a family drama with a touch of magical realism and it’s all about second chances. How far would you go to get that second chance?”

Rewind will hit theaters this year.
