Various international personalities expressed their awe and commendations of Apo Maria "Whang-Od" Oggay's cover on Vogue Philippines.

Actress Halle Berry took to social media to praise the said Vogue cover saying, "Now THIS is real beauty 🙏🏽."

Television host Mario Lopez, on the other hand, commented, "She's awesome! 106 years old!"

Meanwhile, Filipino-American comedian Jo Koy said that it is "the best Vogue cover ever."

"At 106 years old this Filipino icon is finally getting her flowers... Mahal kita APO WHANG-OD," he added.

Supermodel Gigi Hadid also reposted Whang-Od's Vogue cover on her Instagram Stories.

The said Vogue cover also made headlines in various publications abroad like CNN and NBC News.

Whang-Od's Vogue cover was unveiled in March and was met with instant praise and admiration from people across the world.

"Apo Maria 'Whang-Od' Oggay symbolizes the strength and beauty of the Filipino spirit," Vogue wrote upon posting the cover.

"Heralded as the last mambabatok of her generation, she has imprinted the symbols of the Kalinga tribe—signifying strength, bravery, and beauty—on the skin of thousands of people who have made the pilgrimage to Buscalan," the magazine added.

In her interview with the magazine, Whang-Od talked about her dedication to her craft.

"When visitors come from far away. I will give them the tatak Buscalan, tatak Kalinga for as long as my eyes can see," she told Vogue in Butbut language.

Whang-Od is a tattoo artist from Buscalan, Tinglayan, Kalinga. She was presented the given the Dangal ng Haraya Award in 2018 by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).

Whang-Od was also nominated for the National Living Treasures Award (Gawad Manlilikha ng Bayan) in 2017. 

American anthropologist Lars Krutak featured Whang-Od in 2009 in a Discovery documentary which marked the tattoo artist's introduction to the global audience.
