During the recent announcement for his upcoming projects starting this year, Daniel Padilla said that he is excited to return to the big screen with his perennial leading lady Kathryn Bernardo whom he was last paired with in the 2018 film The Hows of Us.

The reel-and-real life couple have been headlining blockbuster films since 2013 in Star Cinema projects like Must Be…Love, She’s Dating the Gangster, Crazy Beautiful You, Barcelona, and Can’t Help Falling in Love.

DJ admitted they were originally slated to a different project before the pandemic but now it’s about time for them to do a different kind of film aside from romantic comedies and drama.

“It’s been a while and galing kaming serye. Pero it’s been a while since makita tayo sa box office. Masyado ng nakaka-miss manuod ng pelikula ulit. Hindi kasi natuloy yung una naming gagawin. Pero nag-evolve na siya into this. May mga rason yung mga bagay ‘di ba, kaya hindi natutuloy at may mga nangyayari.

“Sa storyline pa lang, dito alam ko na iba talaga yung gagawin namin. Medyo matrabaho pero very exciting. I think next year ito lalabas pero ngayon nagsisimula na yung development ng kuwento,” he shared.

With both of them going to be busy this year working on their solo projects in film, DJ said he and Kathryn are still very much excited to do films together.

“Totoo yan, puwedeng hindi na rin namin gawin ni Kathryn ito kasi alam naman natin na napakarami na rin. Andiyan na yung mga series, andiyan na yung mga pelikula. Pero maybe puwede tayo gumawa ng one for the road, ‘di ba?” he added.

Aside from creating new movies for his fans to watch, DJ admitted that he also feels that it is his responsibility as an actor to continue to be part of good quality projects that will entertain people in the country.

“Tayo kailangan natin gawin yung mga parte natin na nasa industriya, nasa filmmaking, na itaas yung standards natin yung mapapanuod natin. Para naman mahikayat yung mga tao. That’s the goal para sa mga pelikula na ito,” he explained.
