After the announcement of the celebrity basketball event called “Basket Boleros” last January, celebrities led by Gerald Anderson and JC De Vera finally left the country earlier this week to prepare for their game on February 11 at the Eventfinda Auditorium in New Zealand. The event was organized by former actress and radio host Asia Agcaolili.

In his post last February 9, Gerald shared photos of him enjoying the scenery in Auckland. He wrote, “Exploring New Zealand 🇳🇿 before our Game on Feb 11 🏀 .. See you guys at Trusts Arena Feb 11.”

Joining Gerald in the special game event are his fellow celebrities and ballers like Joross Gamboa, Joseph Marco, Marco Gumabao, Archie Alemania, Jerome Ponce, and Joe Vargas.

On his account, Joross wrote, “Last night dumating na second batch ng boys para sa laro namin dito sa Auckland, New Zealand sa Feb 11 (by the way) change Venue po tayo dahil sa bagyo na nangyari 2 weeks ago. Sa TRUST ARENA napo tayo same parin po Auckland. Waiting for the 3rd batch na dadating! Sa mga di pa nakakbili ng tickets meron po tayo online at meron din po tayong ticketing booth sa location. Kitakits!!! 🏀🤗 #basketboleros #celebritybasketballph”

Gerald finally fulfilled his childhood dream of playing in a basketball league after joining the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MBPL) which is a semi-professional league) in 2018 where he first played for the Marikina Shoemakers team. The Fil-Am actor is currently part of the GenSan Warriors team which represents his hometown of General Santos City.

In an earlier interview, Gerald admitted that playing basketball was always his original passion way before he got into acting.

“Kumbaga ito talaga yung passion ko. Yung pag arte, sumunod na lang yan eh. Natutunan ko na. Pangarap naman nating lahat maglaro sa PBA, maging basketball player, magkaroon ng ganitong klaseng endorsement. So kumbaga gina-grab ko lang yung opportunity habang kaya ko pa. 32 ako itong Linggo. Okay pa naman ang tuhod ko. Okay pa naman. Kaya pa,” he shared.
