Miss Universe Philippines 2023 Michelle Dee is now a Philippine Army reservist after completing the basic citizen military course, she announced on Sunday, October 1.

The 28-year-old beauty queen graduated as part of the Class 2023 Bravo - Mandirigmang Lumalaban sa Himpapawid (MANLAWID) with the rank of staff sergeant on September 30.

On her Instagram account, Michelle shared photos from her graduation ceremony held at the Philippine Air Force (PAF) Gymnasium in Villamor Air Base in Pasay.

“‘The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” It’s always been a goal of mine to become a civilian reservist, which for me is one of the highest forms of love for your country! If you’re waiting for a sign - this is it. @1afwr,” she wrote.

Present to witness the milestone was her mother, former Miss International and actress Melanie Marquez.

It was early in September when Michelle entered the military to become a reservist for PAF.

“Miss Universe Philippines 2023 Michelle Marquez Dee has officially entered training to be part of the Philippine Air Force. She knows that it’s going to be very challenging, but it’s something she really wants to do for the country,” a post shared by Miss Universe Philippines on Facebook read.

As Michelle Marquez Dee says, ‘Service first.’ We salute Michelle Marquez Dee's dedication to serve!”

According to PAF, “under the law, the reserve force may be mobilized by the President to augment the AFP regular force in the event of war, invasion, or rebellion.” Moreover, army reservists also play a crucial role “in providing aid during disaster or calamities, supporting socioeconomic development initiatives, and contributing to the operation and maintenance of essential government or private utilities.”

Michelle will be representing the country at the 72nd Miss Universe pageant in El Salvador on November 18, 2023.
