‘Squid Game’ makes Emmy history, receives 14 nominations

Squid Game has once again made history after it received nominations for the 2022 Emmy Awards. It is the first non-English series to be nominated at the Television Academy.

The South Korean series bagged 14 Emmy nominations including Outstanding Drama Series. Its actors were also nominated for various awards.

Lee Jung-jae received the Lead Actor in a Drama Series nomination, while Jung Ho-yeon received a Supporting Actress in Drama nomination.

"I am sincerely grateful and honored to be nominated along with other splendid actors. I would like to thank all the fans across the globe who showed their love for our series. I will share this happiness with the Squid Game team, who have been working together through the entire series," Jung-jae said in a statement via his agency Artist Co.

Meanwhile, Ho-yeon took to social media to celebrate her nomination.

"Thank you so much @televisionacad and the voters. A happy day," she posted on her Instagram page.

Park Hae-soo and Oh Young-soo were also nominated for Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, while Lee Yoo Mi was nominated for Guest Actress in a Drama Series.

The show's director and writer Hwang Dong-hyuk was also nominated at the Emmys 2022. He was nominated for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series.

Squid Game was also nominated for Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary Program (One Hour or More), Outstanding Stunt Performance., Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Drama Series, Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music, Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series (One Hour), and Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Single Episode.

Squid Game premiered on Netflix globally on September 17, 2021.

The series tells the story of a group of people who join a survival game to win billions in prize money.

The show made history as it set a new Netflix record for any series on the streaming platform in its initial debut. The series reached 111 million fans in a span of 25 days since its premiere date.
