After he and wife Kristine Hermosa gave a candid and love-filled interview with host Toni Gonzaga for her recent vlog, Oyo Sotto revealed more than just the start of their love story during the half hour sit-down interview in their home in the South. Before meeting his wife on the set of the film Enteng Kabisote, the 38-year-old actor admitted he was not a very good person during his younger years.

Alam mo yung talagang nagpaka wild din talaga ko for a time in my life nung teenager ako, nung high school. Talagang pakawala talaga. Pakawala kung pakawala. Siyempre nung mga time na yun walang Facebook, walang IG, so suwerte ko din pala nung ‘90s hindi na-re-record yung mga kabalbalan (laughs). Blessing din pala yun.

“I tried so many bad things talaga na dapat hindi ko sinubukan. As in yung ganun. Hindi mo alam kung paano ka nakauwi,” he revealed to Toni in her vlog.

Looking back on his younger years, Oyo said he really did not have any clear direction on where he wanted to go in life before he decided to propose to Kristine.

“Wala, wala talaga. One thing na naniniwala ako is God really allows things to happen in your life so that matuto ka dun sa mga experiences mo. Na makita mo na all the while pala nandun lang Siya sa tabi mo.

May pang renta ka ba?’ Ginaganun pa ako (laughs). Pero in a patawa na way. Si daddy ganun naman siya,” he admitted.

Contrary to people’s assumptions that he was the one who told his wife to quit showbiz after marriage, Oyo clairified that this was never the case between them.

“I don’t want to take the credit eh. Si God talaga. Kasi nakita ko rin na she was really praying, talagang, ‘Sige Lord mag-su-submit ako sa husband ko. Kung ganyan ang kailangan ko gawin. I have to lie low muna. Huwag muna ako mag-work. Siya muna. Sige, mag-su-submit siya.’ Kasi gusto niya talaga eh, sinasabi niya sa akin gusto niya mag-work. Kaya lang ayaw niya ng drama. Eh sabi ko sa kanya, ‘Okay ako. Mag-work ka kung gusto mo. Pero gusto mo ba yung gagawin mo?’” he explained.

Oyo also admitted that his family members including his mom Dina Bonnevie also tried to discourage him from pursuing a relationship with Kristine.

“Mataray (daw). As in ganun yung sinasabi sa akin. Totally opposite talaga. Talagang what you see is what you get. Pag good mood siya, good mood siya,” he shared.

Now that they have been married for 11 years and raising five children together, Oyo said he and his wife have only one formula for making their relationship work.

Totoo yan. Kahit gaano pa kaganda o ka-sexy ang asawa mo, hindi mo araw-araw yan mamahalin. If you’re just going to base it on feelings, naniniwala talaga ako na ang love you shouldn’t base it on feelings kasi nagbabago eh,” he shared.
