Director Easy Ferrer is at the helm of this year’s iWanTFC Valentine digital series offering Unloving U which stars real-life couples Ronnie Alonte and Loisa Andalio and Ariel Rivera and Gelli de Belen.

“Natapos namin pre-production in October tapos we shot back in December just right before Christmas. That’s why we got real-life couples para yung mga sweet moments puwede nilang gawin. So dun tayo sa mga totoo para ma-establish na lumabas totoong sweetness kasi totoo yung mga couples,” he shared during the Unloving U mediacon.

The Unloving U director shared he has already gotten the hang of the new safety protocols on the set after shooting projects like Ben X Jim last year.

“Actually, nung nag-shu-shoot na kami ng Unloving U medyo sanay na ako kasi parang pang-five ko na na production yun. Post pandemic shoot, pang lima na siya so parang muscle memory na alam mo na may social distancing dapat, alam mong dapat may cover ka. Mas naging safer kami sa isa’t isa at mas nakapagpahinga kami kasi siyempre may hours lang, parang ganun. Tapos mas mabilis kasi hindi siya magkahiwalay na araw.”

Directing a film with a storyline that is taboo in Philippine showbiz, direk Easy said he made sure to treat the storyline of two step siblings falling in love with care because of the sensitive subject.

“Actually, nung binubuo pa lang ang story, mini-make sure ko na hindi siya tama talaga. Kumbaga the set up itself, the back stories of the two characters, hindi sila magiging taboo. For example, step siblings sila and at the same time, the other one is hindi siya talaga totoong anak. Parang na-ga-ganun ako ng mga set up para kahit papaano mas matanggap and at the same time, hindi ko pino-front-a ng story yung pagiging step siblings. Ang pino-front-a ng story is yung relatable feeling ng isang tao kapag nagiging malapit siya sa isang tao pa, na-de-develop sila. So parang ganun. Lahat naman tayo dumaan sa ganun. Iba iba lang yung set up. Pero dito ang mas nilalagay ko sa harap is yung relatable na pakiramdam ng bawat isa sa atin kapag nag-sa-start tayo magmahal ng someone na lagi nating nakakasalamuha. Dun ko siya kina-capitalize. At hindi siya parang tinitingnan in a bad light. Although alam naman natin na medyo uncomfortable nga yung topic pero mas ginagawa natin siyang light and sweet and relatable para hindi talaga siya madidiin sa audience. So, nag-venture out rin into something na hindi pa na-di-discuss before, but in a relatable and kilig way, parang ganun siya,” he explained.

Unloving U wlll be available for streaming on iWanTFC starting February 8. Directed by Easy Ferrer.
