After twenty years, the ‘90s hit teen movie Pare Ko has once again hit the silver screen. A special screening of the restored version of the movie was held at the University of the Philippines Diliman last September 2, 2015. The event was graced by some of its cast members. Pare Ko stars Jomari Yllana, Jao Mapa, and Nikka Valencia were all ecstatic that their ‘90s movie was remastered by the ABS-CBN film restoration group.
“Kami very excited to be here. Alam mo part nitong pelikulang ‘to hindi lang sa career naming mga artista kundi bilang mga teenagers ng mga panahong ‘yun,” Jomari said during the press screening.
When it comes to his experience while doing the film, Jomari said that it was totally fun. “Ang naaalala ko lahat ‘yun masaya, walang mga dull na moments. Siguro seryoso lang kami kapag galit na si Douglas Quijano, si Joey Reyes sinisigawan na kami, don lang kami sumiseryoso, pero all throughout napakasayang gawin ang pelikulang ito at ano ito eh part ng kabataan namin,” he stated.
Pare Ko actress Nikki Valencia stated that she is happy that the youth of this generation would have a glimpse of the lives of teens during the ‘90s. “I really wanted to be part of direk Joey’s film because kasi my first launching was also with direk Joey, May Minamahal, and I’m really so happy na wow mai-experience ng mga kabataan ngayon kung ano kami noon at iba kami, hindi kami pang commercial. Ito kami, what you see is what you get.”
Jao Mapa remarked that Pare Ko was the movie which introduced him to viewers years ago so with its restored version, the film would help him be reintroduced to the audience of the modern era. “Dito [sa movie] ako nakilala, first full length ko. Parang naglalaro lang kami. Actually kasi ‘yung mga characters namin was based on kung sino talaga kami sa tunay na buhay, what you see is what you get so makikilala kami through the film,” he said.
