Last June 8, Coleen Garcia shared evidence of where she got her beautiful genes. On the occasion of her 70th birthday, Coleen’s lola Gloria Garcia wanted to commemorate the milestone with a jaw dropping boudoir pictorial fit for the self-confessed fitness-addicted grandma.

In her Instagram post dedicated to her grandma, Coleen wrote,

“Tata wanted a boudoir shoot for her 70th birthday, and @mymetrophoto made it happen! 😍Happy 70th birthday to this badass woman! Thank you for teaching me—for continuing to teach me—what it is to be strong, confident, and empowered. Matriarch Gloria Garcia, describes herself on her personal Instagram account as, “A fitness grandma of 10 and a great grandma to 1. You don't have to feel or look your age. Just be you.”

Coleen’s grandmother redefines the modern lola who at 70, still goes to the gym and does other fitness activities like brisk walking around the neighborhood and indoor wall climbing.

During her acting comeback last year in the movie Adarna Gang, Coleen shared her thoughts about returning to the limelight after taking a hiatus to focus on her family.

“Sobrang tagal ko nang hindi gumawa ng pelikula, not just because of having the baby, but also because of the pandemic. Sa tagal kong nawala, sobrang na-miss ko at excited ako to be back and be part of really good stories.

“Before this, I was telling myself, ikakasal na ako at magkaka-baby na ako, siguro kailangang piliin ang mga roles. What I said before na hindi ko gagawin, I gave myself restrictions. I am more willing to give what is needed for me to every story that I will be taking on. Yes, I will still carefully choose the roles because I don’t want to be a part of something that I will not be all in. Dapat kung pipili ng project, todo bigay talaga. I have to pick the projects I believe in, para mabigay ko lahat,” she shared.

Coleen first joined showbiz in 2011 as a teen and then became a regular host on It’s Showtime for four years until 2016. She was last seen acting in ABS-CBN series like Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin and Pasion de Amor.

She married Billy Crawford in 2018 and the couple welcomed their first child Amari in 2020 via water birth in their home in Quezon City. They also celebrated their fifth anniversary last April.

Coleen and Loisa Andalio are set to star in the upcoming esports film Friendly Fire to be directed by Mikhail Red.

Loisa Andalio and Coleen Garcia are set to star in a movie with an esports theme.

According to a report of Variety, the two Filipino stars will headline the movie Friendly Fire. It will be directed by Mikhail Red.

The movie will tell the story of Sonya (Coleen), a female CEO of a Philippine esports company who scouts Hazel (Loisa) in an internet cafe as she sees her potential as an esports player.

Mikhail remarked that he always dreamed of directing a sports film.

"It’s not your usual crime thriller that most of my films are, it’s something fresh for me and exciting. I like to think of it as my most wholesome project, because it’s more inspirational and it’s a genre I’ve always wanted to try – the sports movie and the underdog sports story," he said in an interview with Variety.

The director added that esports is a growing industry in the Philippines.

"Esports is becoming quite big, especially in the Philippines, and there’s this stigma and the lack of support. It’s very new and it’s something that a lot of people still don’t understand. It’s just interesting to follow the lives of these esports athletes who are handicapped in terms of resources, support, and even internet speed and lag," he stated.

The film will be produced by Ten17P.

Back in February, Mikhail announced other upcoming projects that he will be directing under Evolve Studios, his new partnership with Viva Films.

Mikhail said that he aspires for Evolve Studios to be home to "Filipino stories with exciting plots and imaginative ideas."

"We will take wild swings, aim for spectacle and fresh concepts, yet ground them in sustainable and feasible production. Our films aim to be accessible and exciting to the everyday Filipino audience and will have the craft, production value, and sensibilities for international export as well," he explained.

The first two projects that he will be directing and producing under Evolve will be the horror film Nokturno starring Nadine Lustre.

Mikhail and Nadine first worked on the Metro Manila Film Festival hit movie Deleter.

Coleen Garcia added another feather to her cap after winning an international award for her performance in the movie Kaluskos.

On her Instagram page, the actress said that she is honored for her work to be recognized at a film festival in Venezuela.

"Yesterday (December 2) I woke up to the exciting news that I won Best Actress at the El Grito International Fantastic Film Festival in Venezuela!" she wrote.

Coleen extended her gratitude to the jurors of the film festival for giving her the award.

"Thank you so much to the jury for selecting me. I am so honored!🤍" she posted.

She also thanked the director and the producer of the film saying, "Thank yooouuu, Direk @manru and @viva_films, for the trust, and for giving me the opportunity to play Rebekah."

She also expressed her gratitude to the Lord for the newest milestone in her career.

"Thank you, Lord, for carrying me through all of it. 🙏🏻🤍 I learned a lot from this project, and working on it really reminded me why I love what I do!" she posted.

Celebrity friends and fans of Coleen were quick to congratulate her for her recent acting award.

"I worked on El Grito, you really deserved that award. What a compelling performance," one fan said.

Kaluskos is Coleen's first suspense film and the actress admitted that taking on the role became a big challenge for her.

"Ang alam natin sa horror, mga aswang, white lady, mga bad spirits. I don’t know if you will outrightly count ‘Kaluskos’ as a horror flick. But this is the closest to a horror film that I’ve done," she said in an interview with ABS-CBN News.

Coleen shared that she had been yearning to play a role the like the one she played in Kaluskos for a long time now.

"This supernatural thriller was the genre I was really waiting for. Masaya talaga. It was a role I could really play with," she said.

She added: "In Kaluskos, I felt I had more room to really explore my character and worked on really developing my character."

Coleen Garcia opened up about her journey as a mother, describing it as a humbling experience.

In an interview with TeleRadyo's Hapinay, the actress said that becoming a mother to her first child Amari made her realize that she has yet to learn many things.

“‘Yung mga experiences talaga, they’re so humbling. Mari-realize mo na parang ang dami ko pa palang hindi alam. And then when you change that mindset, it makes you more open to learning, to absorbing information,” she stated.

She also highlighted that pregnancy was a completely different experience compared to having an actual child saying, “Kasi ‘pag buntis ka, parang may formula, eh. You have to eat this, you have to do this, bawal gawin ‘to. Pero ‘pag may baby na, ibang-iba na. Walang handbook, ‘di ba, kasi iba-iba lahat ng bata."

Coleen said that raising a child is something that she has to learn along the way.

"Kailangan open ka talaga to learn, kasi kung close-minded ka as a parent, mapapalayo sa ‘yo ‘yung bata. Kailangan open ka, kasi tao ‘yan, eh. We’re all different as people. You have to treat that child as a little human being. ‘Yung respect na binibigay mo sa kaniya, ganun din ‘yung respect na binibigay mo sa mga adults," she stated.

Coleen pointed out that communication is really the key in raising a child. She also highlighted that having a proper conversation with Amari when he asks questions is essential.

“I think that’s something that lot of us forget or we overlook. Na-experience ko rin ‘yun, noong bata kami, ‘pag magsalita ka, or if you question certain things, [ibig sabihin] sumasagot ka na sa magulang," she said.

The actress added, “Kailangan, as a parent, treat it as, kailangan matuto ng bata. Kailangan mong turuan. In the future, iniisip ko, kung may mga itatanong siya, kung may rules ako at iki-question niya, ii-explain ko nang mabuti. Hindi ‘yung, basta sinabi ko, gawin mo. Ayoko ng ganoon."

Coleen said that having spent time with Amari when he was still an infant created a strong bond between the two of them.

“Since I invested so much time noong baby siya, we’re so in sync, ang lakas talaga ng connection namin and I really understand him so well. Kilalang-kilala ko siya nang buong-buo. Ngayon na toddler siya, it’s not so hard. Kasi ang pinaka-mahirap talaga sa toddler stage ay communication.

“As long as you know how to communicate, at ma-address mo ‘yung needs ng bata, hindi siya ma-tantrum, kasi nakukuha naman niya ‘yung kailangan niya. Si Amari, napakadali. Napakadaling alagaan talaga. Sobrang, sobrang blessed talaga kami sa kaniya,” she remarked.

Coleen gave birth to Amari in September 2020 via water birth at home. Amari is the first child of Coleen and her husband Billy Crawford.

In a YouTube vlog she uploaded back in December 2020, Coleen opened up about her water birth experience.

“I would go for a water birth again and again and again. I can’t describe it but it just feels like it’s the most natural way to give birth and at the same time, it was a gentle way for my baby to enter this world,” she said.

Ang Kaluskos ay pinagbibidahan ni Coleen at ipinalabas sa nakaraang 2022 Cinemalaya Independen Film Festival. Magkakaroon ng theatrical release sa December 7, 2022. Kaluskos is under the direction of Roman Perez Jr.

Hindi na madalas gumawa ng pelikula si Coleen simula noong naging mommy na siya ni Amari. Her last film was Adarna Gang pa noong November 2021. Mas priority niya raw kasi talaga ngayon ang pag-aalaga sa kanilang panganay na anak.

“I don’t think I purposely limit pero mahirap din for every production to consider din na bitbit ko yung anak ko and everything. Parang mahirap din naman to consider pero wala, e, non-negotiable pa talaga siya kasi I never spent one single night away from Amari,” paliwanag niya.

“So, nagpapasalamat talaga ako kasi ang Viva saka si Direk Roman, they’re really so understanding about that. And I don’t think, lalo na siguro kung teleserye, na magiging madali siya kung palagi kong kasama si Amari.

“I know it will not last forever kasi hindi naman siya bata forever. Inuuna ko lang talaga siya now,” patuloy niyang pahayag.

Two years old na si Amari kaya tinanong ng PUSH si Coleen kung may balak na ba sila ni Billy na sundan ang bata.

Tugon niya, “It’s a good time, it’s a good time naman. But it’s still up to God pa rin, at the end of the day.

“Na-realize ko din naman na akala ko kasi, nung pregnant ako, sabi ko, ‘Ay, madali lang ito. Parang nine months lang ang mawawala sa akin.’ Pero hindi.

“Two years na yung nawala sa akin na I don’t feel like it’s going to be cut short anytime soon. Raising a child is not easy and ang sa akin kasi, gusto ko lang matutukan si Amari and I feel like if we have another child now, doable naman, manageable naman, pero the way na natututukan namin siya ngayon, iba kasi talaga.

“Although we can multi-task, mas gusto ko yung focus talaga and then, kapag nakakausap na namin siya, nakakaintindi na siya, mae-explain na namin at maiintindihan niya, yon ang ideal time talaga para sa akin na masundan siya.”

Sa Kaluskos ay ginagampanan ni Coleen ang karakter na isang career-oriented mother na kinuha ang custody ng kanyang anak na babae sa asawa nito until matuklasan niya ang isang misateryo na dinaranas ng sariling anak dahil na rin sa naging kapabayaan niya bilang nanay.

“Actually hindi siya horror, more on thriller siya kasi wala naman siya ditong mga multo, aswang or white lady or ispiritu. But I can say na this is the closes to a horror film that I’ve done,” description niya sa genre ng pelikula.

Loisa Andalio and Coleen Garcia are set to star in a movie with an esports theme.

According to a report of Variety, the two Filipino stars will headline the movie Friendly Fire. It will be directed by Mikhail Red.

The movie will tell the story of Sonya (Coleen), a female CEO of a Philippine esports company who scouts Hazel (Loisa) in an internet cafe as she sees her potential as an esports player.

Mikhail remarked that he always dreamed of directing a sports film.

The director added that esports is a growing industry in the Philippines.

The film will be produced by Ten17P.

Back in February, Mikhail announced other upcoming projects that he will be directing under Evolve Studios, his new partnership with Viva Films.

Mikhail said that he aspires for Evolve Studios to be home to "Filipino stories with exciting plots and imaginative ideas."

The first two projects that he will be directing and producing under Evolve will be the horror film Nokturno starring Nadine Lustre.

Mikhail and Nadine first worked on the Metro Manila Film Festival hit movie Deleter.
