Christophe Bariou, the boyfriend of actress Nadine Lustre, took to social media to open up about his past battle with cancer.

In a lengthy Instagram post, the Filipino-French businessman revealed that he was diagnosed with a rare type of lymphoma three years ago and was told by doctors that he only had a few weeks left to live.

“This was something I never thought I’d share at all on social media. … But around 3 years ago, I was diagnosed with cancer and I was told I only had a few weeks left to live,” he said.

“I experienced the darkest sensation of fear, which is something I thought I had already known because it wasn’t the first time I was in a life threatening situation. But this was different. The enemy was invisible and deep inside my own body—a body that I never doubted before, at the age of 27.”

Thinking there was not much hope left, Christopher said he’d decided to stay put in Siargao and just “live the best I could out of my last days” without bothering to even seek treatment.

However, “A couple days later, while trying my best to accept my fate between fear, anxiety, anger and frustration, I learned from other doctors that there was a chance to heal but I had to drop everything, leave immediately, and go back to France to a specialized hospital,” he recalled.

While in France, it was discovered that he had a very rare type of lymphoma (or cancer of the lymphatic system) — one that was so rare that “they had no statistics of survival.”

“But they were still hopeful and my 6 month treatment started,” he said.

True enough, after only two months of intense chemotherapy and immunotherapy, Christophe was in full remission.

"Something I learned from this, going through all the terrible side effects of the chemo, is that despite everything, my life goals did not change at all. I wanted to get back on my feet as fast as possible and continue everything I started, but with more intention and even more motivation,” he said.

Christophe said it was his battle with cancer that inspired him to pursue his advocacies.

“When it comes to advocacies, it was a brutal reminder that life is fleeting. We do not have the luxury to wander and be mindless," he said. "I want to be mindful and conscious in every action. The best I can do is to lessen the suffering and cruelty around me, and promote kindness and compassion towards all forms of life – human and non-human. Our lives are way too precious to be wasted. In the same breath, other lives are too sacred to be robbed from them, too."

He went on, “I have no pretension of changing the world or saying anything revolutionary but simply hoping some readers will realize they should not wait for life to hit them hard to realize all of this. I can make mistakes, I can make bad decisions but one thing I never want to have again is regrets.

“Live and let live.”

He then ended his post by thanking everyone who supported him during his battle with cancer — including his partner at the time, family, and friends.

Actress-singer Nadine Lustre is finally opening up about her boyfriend, French businessman Christopher Bariou.

Appearing on Boy Abunda's \"The Interviewer\", the Greed actress spoke at length about her relationship with Christopher as well as how their love story began.

\"Si Chris kasi, he's half-French, half-Filipino. So he's been living in Siargao for eight years na. His dad bought land there in Siargao in the 70s, 80s... a long time ago. I don't know why he ended up in Siargao aside from the business, kasi they didn't start developing until two years ago,\" she said.

Recalling the first time they met, Nadine said: \"I have friends who have been living in Siargao for a while now. So in July last year, two of my friends [and I] ended up going to Siargao just for a vacation. Medyo maluwag na nung time na 'yun so we were able to fly out.\"

\"We stayed in another place but one of my good friends kasi is working for him... So she asked him [if] we can go to his spot because there's a secret beach there where there's no one there most of the time and it's really peaceful. 'Yun 'yung kung saan nagmi-meet 'yung ilog tsaka 'yung dagat.

\"So she asked him if we could go but we ended up just swimming in his pool. That's pretty much it.\"

When asked of her first impression of Christopher, Nadine admitted that she found her boyfriend quite attractive.

\"My friend kasi were talking about him already and they were saying na, 'Oh, he's actually really cute.' And then when I saw him I'm like, 'Okay fine, he's actually kind of cute,'\" she said.

As for what Christopher feels about dating a public figure, the actress said: \"He is [comfortable]. Well, he's getting used to it at least. I think he understands that it's something that he cannot escape. You know, it's part of it. So he's okay with it.\"

It was early this year when Nadine, 28, confirmed her relationship with Christopher, after months of rumors romantically linking them.

Prior to dating Christopher, the actress was in a relationship with her former onscreen partner James Reid. The two were together for nearly four years before they announced their breakup in 2020.

The concept of love teams has been part of the local showbiz industry for generations already. Part of this culture is the practice of having favorite love teams, with fans cheering on for their chosen couple to the point of pitting them against their contemporaries.

Nadine Lustre, who was in a love team with James Reid for quite a while, admitted that she wasn’t in favor of this.

“I didn’t like that there was a competing aspect to it,” she said in Bea Alonzo’s vlog last April 15, 2023, where she submitted herself to a lie detector test.

At the height of JaDine’s popularity they were often compared with Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo’s KathNiel love team and Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil’s LizQuen tandem

All three love teams were popular in their own right, each with their own loyal following and a string of notable projects to their names.

Nadine was asked if she ever felt that she was in a competition with the the other two love teams. While she admitted that she was aware that fans would pit them against each other, it wasn’t something she paid much attention to and she just considered it as part of the job.

“Nafe-feel ko lang talaga na pinagco-compete kami ng mga tao pero hindi ko siya inisip,” she said. “Parang sa akin back then, hindi ko nagegets bakit may ganoon, so I was more of just doing what I have to do.”

Then until now, it’s a practice that Nadine felt was unnecessary.

“Ayoko [ng competition sa amin]. Parang I was really just doing my own thing,” Nadine explained. “Hindi ko rin gets bakit kailangan may competition. Even until now, nakikita ko siya sa ibang love teams.”

Nadine has nothing against having love teams, per se.

“A love team is a partnership. If you’re in a love team, you pull each other up. It’s really team work,” she explained.

Nadine has been going solo for a while now. Nadine felt that she was already past that stage in her career.

“Feeling ko I’m already past that. When you reach this age, feeling ko wala ng love team," she shared “Alam na ng mga tao kung paano ako sa love stories. I think it’s time for me to do other genres.”

Similarly, Liza has also gone solo. She shared her realization that being part of a love team may have limited her career opportunities.

“I realized, oh my God ang dami kong hindi nagawa sa career ko. And that’s why everybody takes for granted my talent or acting capabilities because they have only seen me in a love team,” shared Liza.

“A love team is a phenomenon only created and existing in the Philippines, and to box a woman like that is so dangerous actually for their mental health and so for their growth,” she added. “Not just as a professional but as an individual. So I stay away from that.”

All of the three love teams went from on-screen lovers to real-life couples. Of the three, only Kathryn and Daniel continue both on-screen and off-screen relationships. Liza and Enrique have gone on solo career paths already, while Nadine and James have gone their separate ways both on and off screen.

James seemed to confirm his relationship with Filipino-British model Issa Pressman last March 2023, while Nadine has been in a relationship with Filipino-French businessman Christophe Bariou for years now.

Nadine admitted that she found it easier to be with someone who was not part of the showbiz industry.

“Kasi walang influence ng ibang tao,” she explained. “Pag nasa showbiz ka kasi, sometimes it gets too loud. It gets too noisy.”

Nadine called Chris her “anchor”, the person who grounds her.

“Si Chris ang anchor ko labas ng showbiz which is something that I need,” said Nadine. “Siya ‘yung [humahatak] sa akin when it gets too crazy.”

Nadine Lustre admitted that she is not keen on having kids of her own.

The actress shared that she is scared about giving birth.

"First of all, takot ako manganak. 'Yun talaga 'yung pinaka-reason kung bakit ayaw ko magkaroon ng kids ng sarili. Takot ako mabuntis, takot ako manganak,” Nadine confessed in an interview with Bea Alonzo.

The actress pointed out that she is open to adopting instead.

“Ang dami kasing kids na walang parents... Right now, parang my mind is set on adopting,” she said.

In the same interview, Nadine was asked if she thinks it is important that her partner wants the same things in life as her.

She responded: "Of course. Mahirap if partners are not seeing eye to eye at magkaiba kayo ng goals in life."

Nadine is currently in a relationship with Filipino-French entrepreneur Christophe Bariou who is based in Siargao.

When asked if it is easier to date someone not from show business, Nadine answered, "For sure kasi walang influence ng ibang tao. Si Chris kasi siya 'yung parang anchor ko sa labas ng show business which is something that I need."

"'Pag nasa showbiz industry ka kasi sometimes it gets too loud. It gets too noisy," she added.

"Parang siya 'yung hahatak sa akin outside of it when it gets too crazy."

Is Nadine the romantic type?

"Yes but I learned growing up that not everything should be romantic. I still like it pero hindi ako 'yung laging nagi-expect na dapat romantic na parang like in the movies. Hindi siya ganun," she highlighted.

Nadine also opened up about her love language and Christophe's too.

"Ako ma-regalo ako pero si Chris kasi love language niya iba. Sa akin kasi more on giving gifts, sa kanya lahat except sa gift-giving. Ako gifts, words of affirmation, tsaka service," she relayed.

Nadine went public with her relationship with Christophe in January 2022.

Nadine Lustre played love guru hat and answered the most common love problems that people encounter.

In a video uploaded by Cosmopolitan Philippines on March 28, Nadine shared love advice and touched on various topics about relationships.

One question she was asked was: "I've been crushing on my friend for a long time na. Do I confess? Or wag na baka mawala 'yung friendship?"

Nadine advised: "It could go both ways. I say wait a bit and kind of feel the whole situation and if you see him or her showing interest in you and then go ahead and try it.

"But if not naman, maybe it is not a good idea."

Another question she was asked was about splitting the bill with the partner during a date.

"Palagi po akong nagbabayad when we go out on dates. How should I tell my partner to shoulder some of the expenses as well?" the sender asked.

Nadine said: "This shouldn't be difficult for you to be honest. I'm sure your partner would be willing to share as well. Me din if I'm on a date, kunwari it's my partner who pays for the dinner tonight, or today, but then the next time I will make sure na I pay for it naman para salitan naman kami."

She further elaborated: "It has to be, parang kailangan even kayong dalawa. It can't be ikaw lang palagi. Your partner has to be willing din to offer of course. Dalawa naman kayong nagbe-benefit dito, dapat nagshe-share di ba?"

Another question Nadine asked was how to keep the spark alive in a long distance relationship.

Nadine highlighted that communication is key when it comes to LDR.

"Communication is really important, you know, if you have down time and your partner has down time as well, spend time with each other. Watch a movie together, have a sit-down chat when you are not doing anything, and ask your partner how their day went, all that stuff. Kwento, chismisan, because communication goes a long way," she said.

Nadine Lustre shared the craziest rumor she has heard about herself.

In a video uploaded by Cosmopolitan Philippines on their YouTube channel, Nadine said that the rumor of her being pregnant is the craziest one.

“This happens every year. I don’t know why. I don’t know how. People just decide that I am pregnant every year. I don’t even look like it,” she relayed.

“If I am pregnant though, I would happily announce it to the world but sadly guys, I am not pregnant. I am not pregnant every year.”

Nadine was also asked what’s something that people don’t know about her.

She responded: “I guess that I am a 'clutter head,' does that makes sense? Because I feel like people see me like as someone very composed, someone who knows what she wants. I’m actually the total opposite of that.”

“Because people see my Instagram, and they’re like you’re so creative, you’re so put together. I’m actually not. I’m actually all over the place,” she confessed.

In the same interview, Nadine also opened up about her most memorable trip to date.

“It would definitely be my trip to France back in March of 2022. It was my first time doing a proper road trip outside of the Philippines and it was amazing. It was a winter tour,” she shared.

Nadine visited France last year with her non-showbiz boyfriend Christophe Bariou.

She added: “It’s amazing, good food, good company of course, met a lot of new people, saw new places, new experiences as well so that’s definitely it.”

On her favorite spot in Siargao, she relayed, “It would be the mangroves near Secret Beach.”

Nadine has her own place in Siargao and she moved to the island in 2021.

In an interview with Cinema News back in April 2022, the actress shared how she would compare living in the city and on the island.

"I think people are much more chill on the island. It's probably the lifestyle, probably the saltwater, I don't know. That's what I noticed comparing people here in Manila and in Siargao," she said.

Nadine also stated that she appreciates the slower pace of life in Siargao.

"Life here in the city is so fast, like everyone is rushing. Even me ha, I feel the same way, I feel like I have to rush this, this, this. It's never-ending, it's tiring. But when you're on the island, parang everything is so chill and slow, save [for] work. Dito kasi pak, pak, pak, done. But there it's like, 'Ah, okay, nice,'" she stated.

When asked of her first impression of Christopher, Nadine admitted that she found her boyfriend quite attractive.

\"My friend kasi were talking about him already and they were saying na, 'Oh, he's actually really cute.' And then when I saw him I'm like, 'Okay fine, he's actually kind of cute,'\" she said.

It was early this year when Nadine, 28, confirmed her relationship with Christopher, after months of rumors romantically linking them.

Prior to dating Christopher, the actress was in a relationship with her former onscreen partner James Reid. The two were together for nearly four years before they announced their breakup in 2020.

Nadine Lustre, who was in a love team with James Reid for quite a while, admitted that she wasn’t in favor of this.

“I didn’t like that there was a competing aspect to it,” she said in Bea Alonzo’s vlog last April 15, 2023, where she submitted herself to a lie detector test.

At the height of JaDine’s popularity they were often compared with Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo’s KathNiel love team and Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil’s LizQuen tandem

All three love teams were popular in their own right, each with their own loyal following and a string of notable projects to their names.

Then until now, it’s a practice that Nadine felt was unnecessary.

Nadine has nothing against having love teams, per se.

“A love team is a partnership. If you’re in a love team, you pull each other up. It’s really team work,” she explained.

Nadine has been going solo for a while now. Nadine felt that she was already past that stage in her career.

Similarly, Liza has also gone solo. She shared her realization that being part of a love team may have limited her career opportunities.

Nadine admitted that she found it easier to be with someone who was not part of the showbiz industry.

“Kasi walang influence ng ibang tao,” she explained. “Pag nasa showbiz ka kasi, sometimes it gets too loud. It gets too noisy.”

Nadine called Chris her “anchor”, the person who grounds her.

“Si Chris ang anchor ko labas ng showbiz which is something that I need,” said Nadine. “Siya ‘yung [humahatak] sa akin when it gets too crazy.”

Nadine Lustre admitted that she is not keen on having kids of her own.

The actress shared that she is scared about giving birth.

The actress pointed out that she is open to adopting instead.

“Ang dami kasing kids na walang parents... Right now, parang my mind is set on adopting,” she said.

In the same interview, Nadine was asked if she thinks it is important that her partner wants the same things in life as her.

She responded: "Of course. Mahirap if partners are not seeing eye to eye at magkaiba kayo ng goals in life."

Nadine is currently in a relationship with Filipino-French entrepreneur Christophe Bariou who is based in Siargao.

Nadine also opened up about her love language and Christophe's too.

"Ako ma-regalo ako pero si Chris kasi love language niya iba. Sa akin kasi more on giving gifts, sa kanya lahat except sa gift-giving. Ako gifts, words of affirmation, tsaka service," she relayed.

Nadine went public with her relationship with Christophe in January 2022.

Nadine Lustre played love guru hat and answered the most common love problems that people encounter.

In a video uploaded by Cosmopolitan Philippines on March 28, Nadine shared love advice and touched on various topics about relationships.

One question she was asked was: "I've been crushing on my friend for a long time na. Do I confess? Or wag na baka mawala 'yung friendship?"

Nadine advised: "It could go both ways. I say wait a bit and kind of feel the whole situation and if you see him or her showing interest in you and then go ahead and try it.

"But if not naman, maybe it is not a good idea."

Another question she was asked was about splitting the bill with the partner during a date.

"Palagi po akong nagbabayad when we go out on dates. How should I tell my partner to shoulder some of the expenses as well?" the sender asked.

Another question Nadine asked was how to keep the spark alive in a long distance relationship.

Nadine highlighted that communication is key when it comes to LDR.

"It works wonders and the thing is because you're far away from this person, this person doesn't really see you and how you're living your life and it's good to share that," the actress added.
