Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau stars in ‘The Wandering Earth II’

Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau will be back on the big screens soon with the prequel to the the 2019 hit The Wandering Earth.&nbsp;In The Wandering Earth II,&nbsp;Andy Lau (As Tears Go By, House of Flying Daggers, Infernal Affairs) plays scientist Tu Hengyu whose grief over the death of his daughter might ultimately trigger the destruction of the planet.&nbsp;The Earth at this time is facing a crisis as the sun is burning out and the planet will be in the wake of its destruction. To escape the looming catastrophe, scientists have decided to build ion engines that will steer the planet away from the sun&rsquo;s reach to a new solar system.&nbsp;However, not everyone agrees with this escape plan and they are determined to stop the Earth from wandering away from its orbit. This, on top of the monumental and dangerous task of getting the engines set up and work, is what faces a group of people people who want to save the Earth from impending doom. I stuck duct tape on the inside of my helmet, so I could relieve the urges by rubbing my face against the tape.&rdquo;&nbsp;&nbsp;Fellow actor Wu Jing, who headlined the first film, talked about the differences between working on the first movie and the prequel.&nbsp;&ldquo;With my wife&rsquo;s support, I starred in the first &lsquo;The Wandering Earth,&rsquo; trying to plant a seed of imagination for children,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;This time in the film, many things have upgraded. The seed we planted has grown big and is actively sprouting. I feel so accomplished.&rdquo;&nbsp;The Wandering Earth II&nbsp;was released in China and US in time for the Chinese New Year and has earned $604M so far, making the third highest-grossing movie of the year at the box office. Based on the book by Liu Cixin, the film stars Andy Lau, Wu Jing, Li Xuejian, Sha Yi, Ning Li, Wang Zhi, and Zhu Yanmanzi. Directed by Frant Gwo, The Wandering Earth II&nbsp;will be shown in Philippine cinemas beginning May 31.
