After going viral for his "Ting Ting Tang Tang" dance videos last year which came from the popular song “See Tinh” by Vietnamese singer Hoang Thuy Linh, Eric “Eruption” Tai is following it up with his first song “Do Your Ting” which he released online last April 3. The former It’s Showtime host shared in an exclusive interview with PUSH how his collaboration with artists like Mr. Mainit, DJ Loonyo, and Solomon Starks first came about.

“The idea came about during yung isang ting ting tour namin sa Tarlac. While on the bus papunta doon, tinanong ko si Mr. Mainit randomly, ‘Ano kaya ang next after Ting-Ting?’ At sabi niya: ‘Why don’t you drop a track (a song)?’ and I just laughed, as in! Kasi wala talaga sa list of goals ko for 2023 or even sa buong buhay ko na maging recording artist or aka ‘singerist’ (laughs).

“The icing on the cake talaga was the next day pag gising ko, ginising ko rin si wifey, sabi ko sa kanya,  ‘I’m gonna make a song.’ Tapos tumawa lang siya. Haha ayan na, one hour later nasa studio na ako with Mr. Mainit working on the song agad with DJ Loonyo and Solomon Starks! Two months later we dropped the ‘Do your Ting’ song and the rest was history,” Eric shared.

Aside from being an online gamer and celebrity athlete, Eric revealed that he had also recently signed up as a recording artist with Ingrooves Music Group which is owned by Universal Music.

“I signed with Ingrooves because my brother Guji Lorenzana was the one that pushed and noticed my potential. As for singing, I have no real singing background besides being in a church choir back in Australia while I was in my youth (before my voice broke) ha ha,” he shared.

Citing his musical influences like John Legend, Usher, Chris Brown, Pitbull, and South Korean artist Psy, Eric shared how he is overcoming the pressure of succeeding in the music industry.

“As a singer, this is WAY OUT OF MY COMFORT ZONE! However, I’m starting to take up classes and advice from fellow friends in the industry. No matter what, I will continue to pursue this career because it’s actually pretty fun pero daring at the same time. May thrill talaga because everything is new to me. Parang a brand new journey and expedition. It’s a blessing indeed.

“Yes I have big fears because I’ve never really sang in public besides the occasional karaoke dahil pinipilit talaga ako kumanta. Yung mga gatherings na yan ay lagi kong iniiwasan (laughs). So the ultimate question was, why now? I was inspired by the friends, family and fans across the globe because of their support for me as the TING TING KING. So I had to just keep ‘doing my ting’; it’s for them!” he admitted.

The “Do Your Ting” singer also defended why he does not mind being known for just riding on the coattails of the popularity of “See Tinh.”

“This is actually the whole point, to give back and pay tribute to the song that made me and the ting ting squad viral. Thankful sobra kami! Super! Nag-trend and I went viral worldwide because of Ting Ting (See Tinh). I wanted to pay tribute to the song hence the name ‘Do your TING.’

“However the meaning and goal of the song runs deep. I just want keep doing what what I’ve already started, which is to continue to infest the world with positive and good vibes thru dance and now singing. Hehe.”

He added, “I believe that you should never listen to them that say you can’t do something — just TURN DOWN THE VOLUME! You can do whatever you put your mind into. The most important TING, is YOU truly believing in yourself. In the start of the song I wrote: ‘Kahit malaki pwede maliit, chubby o payat ka man. JUST DO YOUR TING.’ So no matter who you are or even where you’re from.. wala sa size or outward appearance rin yan. You do YOU and keep doing YOUR TING!”

After enjoying Holy Week break in Bicol where he proposed to his wife Rona almost a decade ago, Eric also shared what he is most looking forward to doing for the rest of the year.

“I will continue to refine the talents and gifts that God has given me in every aspect possible whether it’s sa pagiging atleta, hosting, acting, dancing or even singing, gagawin ko ang pinaka-best ko through the help of my Heavenly Father, family and friends. I wouldn’t be here without them,” he told PUSH.
