Selena Gomez has become the first woman to reach 400 million followers on Instagram.

The actress-singer reached the 400 million mark on Friday, March 17.

Back in late February, Selena surpassed Kylie Jenner as the most-followed woman on Instagram.

Meanwhile, football star Cristiano Ronaldo remains to be the most followed person on the social media platform with 562 million followers. He is then followed by fellow football star Lionel Messi who has 442 million followers on Instagram.

Following the new feat that Selena achieved on Instagram, fans of the Hollywood star were quick to express their elation for her.

"Selena Gomez Queen of Instagram," one fan said.

"The reigning Queen of social media, first celebrity ever to hit 100 mil now the first woman to hit 400 mil," another fan wrote.

Despite her popularity on social media, Selena had always been vocal about how she had been avoiding using it.

In an interview with Good Morning America in April 2022, Selena revealed that she had been staying away from social media to protect her mental health.

"I haven't been on the internet in four and a half years. It has changed my life completely. I am happier, I am more present. I connect more with people. It makes me feel normal," she said in the interview.

She shared that it was the members of her team who have been curating and publishing posts on her account.

The actress highlighted that her efforts of not using social media had been paying off as it improved her mental health.

"Growing up in the spotlight has definitely taught me so much. I can't believe that I'm where I am mentally just because how I took the necessary steps in order to kind of remove myself from that because it's just not normal," she stated.

Selena has always been open about her struggle with bipolar disorder.

Selena recently released a documentary titled My Mind & Me on Apple TV+ which chronicles her 6-year journey facing mental health challenges.

The actress-singer also recently returned to the small screen with the new season of Only Murders in the Building.

The pop star also recently revealed that she is working on a new album.

In an interview with Rolling Stone in February 2023, Selena revealed that her new record is "very pop" that aims to bring joy to people.

"If I had my way, I would probably write ballads my whole life, but I want to produce music that will make people smile," she stated.

"The theme generally is freedom — freedom from relationships, freedom from the darkness,” she added.

Selena turned 30 years old in July of last year

To mark the occasion, the actress took a trip down memory lane and recalled her journey in her 20s.

"My twenties were a journey through good, hard, and beautiful moments that I will never forget. Each of them has shaped me into the person that I am today," she stated.

The pop star said that she remains on a journey of continuous learning as she entered a new chapter in her life.

"I am someone who is still learning, but is more certain about what matters and what she wants. Someone who is grateful for every single gift and every single lesson along the way," she stated.
