Celebrities around the world are paying tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning monarch in British history whose rule spanned 70 years, who passed away on Thursday, September 8, at the age of 96.

Among the first ones to honor her on social media were Elton John, Mick Jagger, Barbra Streisand, Kris Jenner, Victoria Beckham, and Jennifer Garner.

“Queen Elizabeth has been a huge part of my life from childhood to this day, and I will miss her dearly,” said Elton in a statement.

“For my whole life, Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II has always been there. In my childhood, I can recall watching her wedding highlights on TV. I remember her as a beautiful young lady, to the much beloved grandmother of the nation,” tweeted Mick.

“Sad to hear about the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. She was a constant for us all. Respected around the world. May she rest in peace,” said Barbra.

Meanwhile, some local celebrities, including Charlene Gonzalez, John Prats, and Ice Seguerra, also paid tribute to Her Majesty, the Queen on Instagram.

Queen Elizabeth II — who ascended to the throne 1952, following the death of her father, King George VI — passed away at her Balmoral home on the afternoon of September 8, according to an statement shared by the royal family on Twitter.

"The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow," they said.

Her oldest son and heir to the throne Charles, who has now officially become King, also released a statement in the wake of the queen’s death.

“The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family,” he said.

“We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world," he added.
