Janella Salvador admitted that she feels overwhelmed by the positive feedback she has been getting on social media for her portrayal of Valentina.
In an interview with CNN Philippines, the Kapamilya actress shared her reaction to the warm response on her character even though she is playing a villain in Darna.
"When I read tweets, I get kinda overwhelmed by the warmth and support they gave me as Valentina, as Regina. They call themselves 'Valentina Apologists' right now because they say no matter what I do, they're gonna justify it. I am really happy with all the support that my character is receiving. Of course the support that I am receiving is also overwhelming," she said.
Janella revealed she instantly wanted to take on the character as soon as she read the script for the role.
"I fell in love with the character instantly like I was like, 'Oh I need to get this role.' Because honestly, my character Regina, she's so loveable, you can't fully hate her because she's also a victim," she stated.
On her first reaction when she was offered the role, she shared: "I was really happy when they picked me because I've never done a role like this before so it really challenges me and it was the best decision for me."
When asked if she watched the portrayals of the past actresses who played Valentina, Janella replied: "I tried to search for clips online but I didn't want to immerse myself too much because I didn't want to copy any of their Valentinas. I wanted to make it my own."
The actress revealed that she will be doing fight scenes in the series soon and that she will already start training for it.
"For the first few weeks it's mostly [Jane de Leon] doing the fight scenes. Right now, I am starting to train as well. So, I'm gonna be fighting," she stated.
