Estranged sisters Claudine and Marjorie Barretto paid tribute to their father, Miguel Alvir Barretto, on what would have been his 85th birthday on Thursday, September 29.
Sharing photos of herself with their dad on Instagram, Claudine wrote: “Happy Birthday in Heaven Daddy. I miss you so so much it hurts. Pls continue to watch over my kids & I. The kids miss u terribly. I would do anything just to hug u for just awhile. I luv u Daddy so much that it hurts not having u for a long time now.”
Marjorie, for her part, thanked their father for being the best grandpa to her kids, Dani, Julia, Claudia, Leon, and Erich.
“September 29. Happy Birthday in heaven, Dad. There is not a day we don’t miss you. And we will celebrate your birthday for the rest of our lives. Thank you for being the best grandfather to my children. You have are loved today and everyday,” said Marjorie.
The Barretto patriarch passed away on October 15, 2019 due to acute respiratory failure. He was 82.
To recall, his death was marred by reports of a scuffle involving his daughters Claudine, Marjorie, and Gretchen that happened during his wake and in front of no less than former President Rodrigo Duterte. The three sisters, who have been involved in countless other controversies over the past decade, remain estranged as of today.
Nevertheless, in a recent interview with broadcast journalist Karen Davila, Marjorie’s daughter Julia shared her hope for a reconciliation between her mother and her two aunts, saying, “I know how much [my mom] loves her older sister as well and the bond that they really had. Before, they were really inseparable.”
“Growing up, nakita namin ‘yun. I really hope that one day, maayos iyon.”
“Even after things have been said and done, I just feel like the fact that it was painful for each other, it means there was love in the first place,” she added. “I feel like there’s hope. If I’m affected, it’s for my mom, because I do know how much love she has for them.”
