Actress Jessy Mendiola has contracted COVID-19 while being five months pregnant with her first child, she revealed on Thursday, September 15.
Jessy, who is expecting her baby with her husband Luis Manzano, said she first tested positive for the virus last September 3.
“After almost 3 years of being so paranoid and careful… I tested positive for COVID-19,” she wrote on Instagram.
“I had symptoms and, for me, it was the hardest 11 days of my life. It was my first time to get infected with the virus. I never thought I would get it while 5 months (and 3 weeks) pregnant.”
Jessy shared her “difficult experience” battling the coronavirus while being five months pregnant through a vlog released simultaneously on her YouTube channel.
“I want to spread awareness that COVID-19 is still very much around. Even if protocols are easing up and there already is a mandate allowing people not to wear masks outdoors… I hope we still protect each other in our own little ways,” said Jessy.
Addressing her fellow soon-to-be mothers, the actress said: “Ang hirap pala talaga magkasakit kapag alam mong may dinadala ka sa iyong sinapupunan hindi dahil sa sarili mo, pero dahil magaalala ka talaga para sa baby/anak mo at siyempre para sa asawa mo.”
After 11 days of quarantining with Luis at home, Jessy shared that she finally tested negative for COVID-19 last September 13.
It was last August when Jessy and Luis announced that they are expecting their first child together.
The couple has been married for over a year. They tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in Batangas in February 2021.
