Tirso Cruz III has been appointed as the new chair of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP).

The 70-year-old actor took his oath as incoming chairman and chief executive of FDCP in front of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., replacing Liza Diño who held the same post during the Duterte administration.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Tirso said that while he feels honored to be chosen to take on the job, he knows he would be needing a lot of help from the rest of the council to deliver his duties.

“I am honored I was chosen. Mabigat na trabaho ito at kailangan ko rin ng tulong ng council,“ Tirso said.

Despite his new role in the government, Tirso said he will continue doing what he loves most — acting.

Tirso is part of the FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano and has committed to doing other projects as well.

Meanwhile, Liza Diño, in a video shared on her personal Facebook page said her office is currently preparing for the transition.

Former President Rodrigo Duterte reappointed her as FDCP chair last March with a term supposedly lasting until 2025.

“I just want to let you know that the agency has also read the latest development regarding the chairmanship of the FDCP online,” she said.

“We will welcome him pagdating na pagdating niya dito,” she added.

She also thanked everyone who has shown her support during her stint as FDCP chair.

“I just want to take this opportunity to thank everyone sa lahat ng suporta ninyo, sa lahat ng messages niyo — thank you so much for your love and support,” she said.
