Kim Atienza shows full support on daughter’s mental health journey

Kim Atienza took to Instagram to show his support for his daughter’s mental health journey.

Kuya Kim reposted the post that Emman Atienza shared on her account. His daughter is a proud mental health advocate who isn’t afraid to openly discuss the challenges she's going through.

“I’m not going to lie, after properly dieting and losing an increasingly high amount of weight, I became obsessive over my calories. I would sometimes eat much less than a healthy body needs to survive. I became so obsessive that others became concerned about my own health and my daily functioning was at stake,” Emman shared.

In the post, she shared a glimpse of her diary that showed details of what she went through growing up. She revealed that she was refused professional help even during her mental state since she wasn’t clinically underweight.

“Anorexia nervosa is defined as “an emotional disorder characterized by an obsessive desire to lose weight by refusing to eat” in no area does it specify “underweight”. Yet I was only given professional help once I was clinically underweight,” she continued to share.

Kuya Kim made sure that his daughter knew that her whole family was behind her every step of the way. He added that he is fully “supporting her on her mental health journey.”

Emman proceeded to remind everyone that the numbers on the weighing scale don’t define a person’s self-worth. She shared that she has just recovered and simply wants to continue being a mental health advocate.

“Remember that anorexia or any eating disorder isn’t defined by your weight, it’s your mental state and daily habits in which symptoms are present,” she added.

Celebrities flooded both Kuya Kim and Emman’s posts, showing their support for the latter.

Journalist and TV personality Karen Davila was among those who praised Emman, sharing how amazed she was by the strength of Emman to public and be honest with her emotions.
