Singer-songwriter Taylor Swift released her new song "Carolina" which is a track she created for the upcoming movie adaptation of the best-selling novel Where the Crawdads Sing.
On her Instagram page, Taylor shared the story behind her new song.
"About a year and half ago I wrote a song about an incredible story, the story of a girl who always lived on the outside, looking in. Figuratively and literally. The juxtaposition of her loneliness and independence. Her longing and her stillness. Her curiosity and fear, all tangled up. Her persisting gentleness… and the world’s betrayal of it," Taylor shared.
Taylor relayed that she wrote the song all by herself and collaborated with The National member Aaron Dessner to create the sound for the track.
"I wrote this one alone in the middle of the night and then @aarondessner and I meticulously worked on a sound that we felt would be authentic to the moment in time when this story takes place. I made a wish that one day you would hear it. ‘Carolina’ is out now," she posted.
Following the release of the song, various fans on social media expressed their elation upon hearing "Carolina."
"I totally got lost in this book of a girl trying to find her place in this world and your ability to write a beautifully written song that tells of a girl who felt protected by the marsh is truly a gift. Thank you so much for sharing your gift Taylor," one fan said.
"Literal chills. This song is hauntingly beautiful, I had to put on my long sleeve Carolina shirt after one listen. You’ve done it again Taylor!" another fan commented.
It was last March when Taylor announced that she wrote a song for the upcoming film adaptation.
"'Where The Crawdads Sing' is a book I got absolutely lost in when I read it years ago. As soon as I heard there was a film in the works starring the incredible @daisyedgarjones and produced by the brilliant @reesewitherspoon, I knew I wanted to be a part of it from the musical side. I wrote the song 'Carolina' alone and asked my friend @aarondessner to produce it," she announced back in March.
Taylor remarked that she "wanted to create something haunting and ethereal to match this mesmerizing story."
Where The Crawdads Sing will hit US movie theaters on July 15.
