Charlie Puth released his highly-anticipated collaboration with BTS member Jungkook titled "Left and Right."
Charlie released the song on Friday, June 24. The music video for the pop track also premiered on the same day.
"Left and Right" became an instant hit. On his Twitter page, Charlie expressed his elation after the song hit half a million streams on Spotify a few minutes after it was released.
"500k on Spotify y’all are insane ♥️ it’s been 20 min lol," he tweeted.
Meanwhile the music video gained 10 million views in a couple of hours since it premiered.
"Thanks CPF (Charlie Puth Fans) and ARMY! 10 million video views in 12 hours is NUTS!" he posted. The video has already gained 23 million views as of this writing.
"Left and Right" also debuted at number one on the Worldwide iTunes chart.
"When you listen to left and right make sure you listen with headphones to get the full effect. It’ll tickle your brain!!!!! I love the snare drum ughhhh," Charlie suggested to the listeners of the song.
Fans were quick to express their appreciation for Charlie and Jungkook's collaboration on social media.
"Really wanted their collab from a very long time, never knew it would happen!! Beautiful Song and Beautiful MV, shot amazingly!!" one fan said.
"What an amazing combo! Jungkook and Charlie’s voices fit so perfectly for this track!" another fan commented.
In an interview with Z100 New York, Charlie shared the story on how his collaboration with Jungkook came into fruition and why he chose the BTS member as his collaborator for this song.
"He immediately came to mind because, and by the way I didn't even know that they would be going into hiatus when I reached out to him and asked if he would like to be part of it. But we have the musical history together,” Charlie said.
“We had performed in an award show. Prior we always send each other music that we love. He always talks about me in interviews, I always talk about him in interviews. I love natural real life collaborations," he added.
"Left and Right" is anticipated to be part of Charlie's upcoming album called Charlie.
According to the singer, his new album was created mostly through the TikTok platform.
"I’m going to call the album, ‘Charlie’. It’s done. I’ve made most of it on TikTok. My goal for this album is for everybody to know every song title before it comes out. I love the fact that ‘Light Switch’ has been teased for months, and people are making bootlegs of it," he said in an interview with Apple Music 1's Zane Lowe in January.
"Some producers have even taken, run it through Isotope, and taken the acapellas and made their own versions of ‘Light Switch’. I love that. I think music should be twisted and pulled in many different directions. That was just the goal for this album, and I’m really excited for people to hear it," he added.
"Left and Right" was coincidentally released following the announcement of BTS that they are taking a hiatus as a group to focus on their individual activities.
"We're each going to take some time to have fun and experience lots of things. We promise that we will return someday, even more mature than we are now. I just hope, that you could give us your blessing. That's what i hope for," Jungkook said in the "Festa Dinner With BTS" livestream earlier this June.
BTS member RM added: "When people hear our group name, they say, ‘Oh wow, BTS.’ But honestly, people don’t really know who each of the members are. Since we’re singers, I think it’d be most impactful for us to show [who we are] through our music and performances. So from now on, we’re going to release [solo] albums instead of mixtapes."
