Kuya Kim Atienza felt disappointed after he found out that he could not attend his daughter’s high school graduation last Saturday, May 28, after he tested positive for COVID. On his Instagram, he took the time to be virtually present to honor and give praise to his daughter’s academic success.
“I took a leave for this day I was sooo looking forward to but covid took the better of me and I had to isolate [myself] at home,” he wrote.
Kuya Kim’s daughter, Eliana, graduated from International School Manila and she will be attending University of Pennsylvania for college. Attending his daughter’s graduation ceremony on his behalf was his son, Jose, along with his wife, Felicia.
He shared a series of photos that showed the ceremony that took place inside the school’s premises along with photos of the whole family without him. While it didn’t go as planned, Kuya Kim nonetheless was a happy and proud dad.
“I love you and I am sooo proud of you @elianahatienza you are God's gift to mama and I and in a few months, you shall be in college far away from both of us,” he added.
Just like any parent, Kuya Kim couldn’t help but reflect on his journey as a father. He compared himself and his wife to a bow while their children to an arrow. “Parents are like bows and you are like an arrow. Our job is to shoot you far and straight and high.....far away from us. It is sad but that's what parents are designed to do,” he said.
Meanwhile, friends and followers of Kuya Kim sent Eliana their well-wishes and hoped for a fast recovery for the news anchor. Fellow anchor Vicky Morales sent him a care package that contained two of his favorite fruits, Bangkok Lanzones and Durian.
After leaving ABS-CBN, his home network for 17 years last October 2021, Kuya Kim transferred to GMA wherein he currently hosts in different news shows and programs.
