After she started her vlog three years ago, Ivana Alawi now has one of the most subscribed channels among local YouTubers. This year, the popular social media personality is back to acting as the star of the upcoming drama series A Family Affair along with Gerald Anderson, Sam Milby, Jameson Blake, and Jake Ejercito.
“Actually ever since naman gustong gusto ko gumawa ng teleserye with ABS-CBN. Yung timing lang talaga. Kasi the last show na I was supposed to do, biglang dumating yung pandemic and COVID and I was keeping my family safe. Ngayon kasi parang may vaccine na and very strict ang protocols ng ABS-CBN especially with the tapings, I feel safe naman kaya.
“Gustong gusto ko din naman gumawa ng teleserye. Siguro it’s because ang gumawa ABS-CBN and pag gumawa ang ABS-CBN talagang class and hindi ako nag-aalala sa itsura ko and sa story kasi kapag gumawa ang ABS-CBN world class talaga,” she shared.
Although her launching project was initially supposed to push through in 2020, Ivana admitted she was not disheartened by the delay.
“Nung nag-sign ako sa ABS-CBN I was very excited kasi kakabalik ko lang. Kasi very important ang ABS-CBN sa akin. It’s very close to my heart. It’s my dream network and I was so excited to start filming. Pero yun nga, in God’s perfect time talaga because it wasn’t my time kasi dumating yung pandemic, dumating yung COVID, nag-lockdown tayo. So I learned more things habang naka-lockdown.
“I always try to look at things positively. Na parang kapag may nangyayari, may dahilan si God. Ito yung binigay na time sa atin ni Lord para makapag-taping and makapag-prepare. Ngayon yung career ko chill lang siya (laughs). Aside from being chill lang yung na-fi-feel ko, of course I feel very blessed and very grateful na nabibigyan ako ng mga opportunities na ganito, for them to trust me with this big project,” she admitted.
During the A Family Affair bloggers conference, Ivana recalled her first reaction upon being handed the script for the project.
“I was so excited nung pinitch siya sa akin. Sa story pa lang sabi ko okay na ako, ang ganda ganda ng story and it’s something different kasi it’s not just drama. There’s a lot more.
“It’s very seductive, steamy, sexy, thrilling, mysterious, ang dami. So it’s a very, very exciting show. Sa story pa lang, I think sobrang nakaka-relate ako sa role ni Cherry. Nung nabasa ko siya sabi ko it’s perfect, especially for my first lead role na very loving sa family.
“Kasi dati parang hindi pa na-experience yung lead role. Kasi yung mga role ko dati one line, two lines, three lines. Pero ngayon ang haba tapos every scene halos nandiyan ako. So I think people expect to see a lot more from me dito sa show na ‘to,” she revealed.
The 25-year-old actress and vlogger also shared how she prepared for the project which has been shot in different locations like Masbate, Laguna, and Batangas.
“Pinag-aralan ko talaga yung script. Binabasa ko siya and ini-imagine ko kung ano yung gagawin ni Cherry Red. Because nga this is not Ivana. Because you really have to get into the character. Pag-aralan mo and you really have to feel. Nanunuod ako ng mga teleserye dati ng ABS-CBN. Nag-re-rewatch ako kasi siyempre importante na makita mo yung emotions din ng ibang artista baka ma-apply mo din,” she said.
