After welcoming Ian Veneracion as the newest artist to join his talent management family called the A Team, Ogie Alcasid admitted the process of signing up the actor-turned-singer was not done on impulse.
“I think it’s good that he feels comfortable. Siguro there was a point na nag-aantayan rin kami. We were just comfortable working together and just working on whatever we wanted to do.
“It is his 40th anniversary in showbiz this year. The first time we approached Ian, we were really approaching him on more of what he wanted to do with his music career,” he shared during Ian’s presscon for A Team last May 16.
Ogie shared that his team will focus more on helping plot out Ian’s music career.
“Kasi yung movies, TV, pag-arte niya, kahit tulog yan, kaya gawin ni Ian yan eh. Alam na niya yung galawan dun eh. Pero with the music, na I see gustong gusto niya, that was where we wanted to come in and help Ian fulfill his dreams.
“So we started a series of concerts. So it was a process. Hindi naman biglaan. It was a process of learning kung saan siya kumportable. And I can already see that we will be doing more music. He already produced yung bago niyang kanta. So I’m sure he’ll want to do more of that.
“Kasi nga si Ian pintor, artista, action star, and musician. So I think that is one thing I think he wants to keep exploring. Dun siya nag-e-enjoy talaga eh,” he said.
Despite Ian having gone into music late in his career, Ogie said the potential of the newest A Team artist is limitless.
“I think he has a potential for many, many things. Just simply because mahilig siyang kumanta. He will sing to his heart’s content. I mean that as a compliment. I don’t think there’s a ceiling for him. I think he’s a complete artist. Feeling ko nga wala siyang takot eh.
“Kunwari lang yan na natatakot siya. Hindi ka tutungtung sa entablado kung natatakot ka. Madami siyang input talaga eh. That’s the kind of artist he is.
“May mga artists kasi na pinauubaya na lang sa team, sa manager, or sa handler. Ian I think will always say, ‘Let’s do this kasi masarap sa feeling or this is good for my soul’ but I think also bottomline is I think financially it has to be fulfilling. Let’s be practical about this whole thing. It’s also an economic relationship that we have,” he explained.
Even with their new partnership, Ogie explained that this does not mean that Ian’s acting career will be taking a backseat.
“I think it will depend on his mood (laughs). Yung movies and TV and all of that, I think that’s a constant in his career. He’s a very, very accomplished actor. But I think he’s still just scratching the surface pagdating sa music so we’re excited to see where this will take him.
“In terms of hierarchy, I think actor talaga siya di ba? Pero alam niyo ba sa Hollywood ang dami daming nag-tu-tour talaga. The likes of Kevin Bacon. These are musicians na hindi niyo lang alam. Kasi fina-follow ko siya. Apparently he has a band na tumutugtog pa din.
“These are things as an artist that you want to explore. Even if si Ian ay hindi na batang bata na, he’s still willing to jump and do the things he wants to do and I think everybody should do that. Habang kaya,” he added.
Aside from his wife Regine Velasquez, Ogie revealed which singer he knows would make a good collaboration with Ian.
“I think anyone puwede. As far as yung mga beterano, I think puwede ka with Regine, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Lea Salonga. Walang limit eh. I think with him it can always be a pleasant surprise for a lot of people when they start hearing him sing. Ang sarap marinig yung mga comments na biglang, ‘Uy, ang galing pala ni Ian kumanta!’” he admitted.
