With her eldest daughter KC Concepcion having just wrapped up shooting for her international film Asian Persuasion this week after staying in New York for the past two months, Sharon Cuneta once again proved herself a proud and supportive mom. The film is KC’s movie comeback project after almost a decade.
During the presscon for her upcoming Iconic concert in June, the Megastar shared more details about how KC’s project was first offered to her.
“Sa akin dumaan yun. Kasi Jhett Tolentino, who is a Grammy and Tony award-winning producer, offered me also a movie before kaya lang we had trouble finding people to finance it because he wanted me to star with A-list American actors. And it was so hard pero beautiful sana yung concept.
“And then he came up with this project na siya na yung mag-di-direct. I think alam na nung tao na si Toni Gonzaga couldn’t do it because of her schedule. So sabi niya, ‘I’d like to talk to KC.’ Sabi ko, ‘Oo, this is how you get in touch.’ Sabi niya, ‘Baka hindi ako pansinin?’ I said, ‘No, no, no. I’ll message her to wait for your message and then you message her.’
“So nag-usap na sila. KC is a full-fledged adult. She makes decisions on her own and obviously she accepted it and I’m very happy for her. She’s in good hands,” she shared.
Sharon also revealed details about an exciting new international project titled Concepcion where she is being offered to play the matriarch of a mob family.
“It’s a series sa TV, They’re pitching it now. That will come later. Hindi ako ang producer nun. Kinukuha lang ako. Kasi Concepcion is the family name. Concepcion ang title, hindi ako yung pumili nun. It’s also backed by the makers of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
“It stars mga great Filipino actors there including one who was in John Wick 2 or 3. He’s part Filipino. It’s about a Filipino crime family based in America. Filipino-American crime family and my role, if it pushes through, will be that of the matriarch. Parang Sopranos na hindi (laughs). Ang talagang boss yung asawa ko,” she shared.
For her return to the concert scene after more than two years, the 56-year-old singer shared how she is gearing up to take the stage again with Regine Velasquez next month.
“Ako walang exercise in two years so ang workout ko ngayon kailangan throat talaga, vocal cords. Although we feel like we’re still in our 20s, as all of you know very well, as we age, your brain doesn’t. Your brain and your heart doesn’t change. You’re just a little wiser. We’re not childish, we’re childlike!” she said.
The Iconic concert will also be directed by Sharon’s nephew Paolo Valenciano, who is also Gary Valenciano’s eldest son.
“At first, the director was Roel Santiago who is also part of the FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano cast. But unfortunately, because he plays two characters he told me, ‘Unfortunately I had to say no. Hindi ko na talaga kaya.’ Na ngayon being part of the show intinding intindi ko kung bakit.
“And then it’s not that Paolo was second choice. Paolo for me is one of the best now, not just because he’s my nephew but because I saw the guy grow up and really learn the trade.
“Paolo is a go-to director nowadays so I’m very confident in Paolo’s abilities to keep the legacy of Iconic going and to interject some new blood into it. But we cannot remove what our audience really wants to hear which are the classics na kinalakihan nila,” she explained.
