Selena Gomez revealed that she has not been using the internet for more than four years now to protect her mental health.
In an interview with Good Morning America, the singer-actress relayed that stepping away from the online world has changed her life.
"I haven't been on the internet in four and a half years. It has changed my life completely. I am happier, I am more present. I connect more with people. It makes me feel normal," she said.
Selena has more than 300 million followers on Instagram. Her team is the one who curates and publishes the posts on her account.
"Growing up in the spotlight has definitely taught me so much. I can't believe that I'm where I am mentally just because how I took the necessary steps in order to kind of remove myself from that because it's just not normal," she said.
Selena has launched a platform called Wondermind alongside her mother Mandy Teefey and entrepreneur Daniella Pierson.
Wondermind is a mental fitness company that aims to "give you easy, doable ways to put your mental fitness first every single day."
"If I'm known for anything, I hope it's simply just for the way I care about people and those days when I don't get out of my bed if I had something like Wondermind, even if it took me a minute to get into it, it's just there and there is something that's really comforting about that," she stated.
Selena is turning 30 years old this coming July. She remarked that she is ecstatic to commence this new chapter in her life.
"I couldn't be any more thrilled to step into this chapter alone, independently, strong, confidently, that's all I really want, you know, I'm excited," she said.
Selena started her career as a teen star on Disney by starring in the hit series Wizards of Waverly Place.
She recently starred in the mystery-comedy show Only Murders in the Building which premiered on Hulu in August 2021. A second season of the show will premiere this coming June.
In March 2021, Selena released an extended play titled Revelación. It was nominated for Best Latin Pop Album at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards.
In September 2020 she launched her makeup line called Rare Beauty.
