Starting off the month of April with another touching episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya, director Raz Dela Torre said their depiction of the lives of three brothers who grew up being raised by their grandmother should not be missed.
“Ito ay one of those classic MMK episodes. And when we say classic, it’s the kind of story that will surely resonate with so many people because we will be able to see the kind of relationships that most Filipino families have. Sobra kaming masaya that this episode came the way it did. Sana panuorin niyo on April 2,” he said during a recent MMK mediacon.
Having done numerous MMK episodes in the past, the seasoned director shared what is the best and most challenging parts of tackling real life stories.
“I think the toughest part is always giving justice to the story more than anything. Kasi hindi na kakaiba yung meron kang makakatrabahong beteranong artista. Ang MMK kasi hindi tulad ng teleserye na parang mahaba yung pag-shu-shoot ninyo eh. It’s the same set of actors and locations. With MMK the turnover is so quick. So parang gumagawa kayo lagi ng pilot every episode kasi bagong set ng artista, ng script, ng locations. And on top of that, they’re real people stories. So when everything is said and done, iniisip mo what do you really prioritize above all? And it’s really giving justice to the story. Because these are real people’s stories and they put their heart and soul in sharing their letters to you para makapulutan ng aral ng mga manunuod,” he shared.
More than being a story of three brothers (played by Hero Angeles, Marlo Mortel, and Sky Quizon), direk Raz said his latest MMK episode is about the dynamics of every Filipino family.
“I think for this particular story ang pinakamagandang napakita namin is not just necessarily a tribute to men but we can’t also ignore the fact that this is a story of three brothers and I think isa sa naipakitang maganda ng magkakapatid is that resilience and that perseverance that when they dream of something for the family, they will do whatever they can in order to achieve that. And I think that is very typical of every Filipino male, especially those that are heads of household. Ganun ang mga pagkakakilala natin sa mga padre de pamilya, sa mga lalake sa ating pamilya. And I think it’s really a beautiful tribute hindi lang sa katatagan at perseverance ng male members of our family, but just the love that we have for our family. Napakagandang tribute itong episode na ‘to,” he explained.
If there is anything direk Raz wants audiences to learn from watching his episode, it is to remind them of the things that are truly important in life despite all the trials and tribulations.
“I think for us kasi, hindi natin matatanggal sa kultura nating mga Pilipino na parang our family always expands. Kumbaga hangga’t kaya natin isalang alang natin ang kapakanan ng lahat ng miyembro ng pamilya, ginagawa natin. Hindi katulad ng puwedeng mga nakikita natin sa ibang kultura wherein once they have their own families parang that’s their only concern. Parang sa atin parang nakikita lagi natin that whenever help is needed, whenever emotional support is needed, laging nandiyan tayo para sa isa’t isa. And I think that’s not spoken of a lot. We take it for granted na lagi nating nakikita lang di ba?
“Ang nakakatuwa is sa mga ganitong klaseng kuwento na mapapanuod natin in shows like MMK, parang naipapaalala natin the things that we should be proud of and the things that we actually appreciate about our own families. Yung makikita niyo sa pamilya Villadares makikita niyo sa pamilya niyo. Yung para bang na-re-renew niyo yung pagmamahal niyo sa isa’t isa dahil nakikita niyo na oo nga noh, this is something that we should all be proud of,” he said.
