Various P-pop idol groups will come together for the first time to mark the very first Pinoy Pop Convention or PPOPCON.

During the physical press conference held at the Novotel Manila Araneta City on Wednesday, March 30, the different groups shared their elation over the two-day event. The PPOPCON 2022 is slated to happen on April 9 and 10 at the neighboring Araneta Coliseum and New Frontier Theater.

During the press con, PUSH asked, “How do you see the P-pop industry five years from now?” To which BGYO, who graced the event through the video conferencing app Zoom, answered, “In five years, I see the P-pop industry much bigger than it is now, and everybody knows it all around the world. When you ask them what’s P-pop, they’ll know what it is. And, I see the level of the performers in P-pop way better than we are now. Another level of dance, singing, all of that. And I see a bunch of groups, way more groups than it is now. It’s just way bigger, way better.”

Likewise, SB19, who were physically present at the event, shared how they see the future of the P-pop industry. Pablo began, “Siguro po, I just want to say na right now, kami pong grupo namin – SB19, we are really, really happy kasi ‘nung nagsisimula pa lang po kami, wala talaga kaming friends. Now we have everyone here, and I believe there’s strength in numbers.

“And I believe, someday, maitatalaga na talaga or magkakaroon talaga ng P-pop as a genre na makikilala all over the world. And I think one thing that this PPOPCON matutulungan talaga is ‘yung pagkakaayusan ng mga fan bases kasi no matter what happens, kami kami talaga, ‘yung mga grupo rito, magkakaibigan kami. Alam mo ‘yun? We share one heart. Talagang buhay na buhay ‘yung pusong Pinoy sa’min. And our fans do have that as well. I think hindi malabo na makilala ‘yung kultura ng Pilipino sa buong mundo,” he added.

The P-pop community continues to gain popularity and recognition. BGYO, who won PUSH Music Personality of 2021 made history as the first Filipino artists to land an NFT (Non-fungible token) cover for the Dubai-based magazine Xpedition. They are behind the hits “The Light”, “The Baddest”, and “He’s Into Her.”

Likewise, SB19 made history as the first Filipinos to be nominated at the Billboard Music Awards, alongside international superstars BTS, Ariana Grande, BLACKPINK, and Seventeen. They are behind the chart-topping songs “Bazinga”, “What?”, “MAPA”, “Go Up”, and “Alab.”

Aside from BGYO and SB19, other P-pop idol groups who will be gracing PPOPCON 2022 include MNL48, BINI, 4th Impact, ALAMAT, 1st.One, Press Hit Play, VXON, KAIA, PPop Generation, DAYDREAM, R Rules, G22, Calista, and DIONE.
