KC Concepcion has replaced Toni Gonzaga in the upcoming movie Asian Persuasion, the directorial debut of Tony and Grammy award-winning producer Jhett Tolentino.
A Variety report published on Monday, April 11, announced that KC has been cast as the film's new female lead opposite Filipino-American actor Dante Basco.
The actress will play the role of Avery, a beautiful and stylish Asian-American who owns a fashion design business in the Lower East Side of New York. She is the ex-wife of Mickey (Dante), a coffee shop owner whose culinary dreams and ambitions were derailed by self-doubt and depression following the death of his parents during his senior year in college.
"Following a poorly negotiated divorce settlement, he (Mickey) is saddled with alimony payments that he simply cannot afford. To avoid paying, he comes up with a scheme, with the help of his best friend Caspian, to get Avery remarried by creating a fake online dating profile for her. He finds Lee, a potential suitor from the dating site, and coaches Lee on how to make Avery fall for him," read the film's premise, as shared on its social media page.
"Everything goes smoothly until Mickey's plot backfires on him. He rushes to clean up his act to win Avery back. He might be too late."
KC, who recently announced her return to acting, also confirmed the news with her followers on Instagram, writing, "Onto day 3 of filming @asianpersuasionfilm! Thank you for joining us on this new journey. Grateful to be part of this Asian-American project, with our amazing cast & crew."
Meanwhile, aside from KC, other Filipino actors who were cast in the film are Black Eyed Peas' Apl.de.Ap, Yam Concepcion, Tony Labrusca, Rachel Alejandro, Paolo Montalban, Jax Bacani, Rex Navarrete, Fe de los Reyes, and Devin Ilaw.
Asian Persuasion, as per Variety, is set for an early 2023 premier and release.
