TIME Magazine named HYBE, the company behind the global boy group BTS, as one of the 100 Most Influential Companies of 2022.
HYBE's chairman, Bang Si-hyuk, alongside BTS graced the cover of the magazine.
In the said magazine feature, Si-hyuk talked about the vision of the company and its future plans in expanding its reach beyond the music realm.
"HYBE’s vision has always been ambitious—to the point of being presumptuous. Our vision is to become the world’s leading entertainment lifestyle platform, with music as our foundation," Si-hyuk told TIME.
HYBE is featured under the "Leaders" category.
This is the second time that the company made it into the said list as it was also named as one of the most influential companies by TIME back in 2021. According to TIME, the 100 companies in the list were chosen based on factors such as “relevance, impact, innovation, leadership, ambition, and success.”
HYBE was formerly known as Big Hit Entertainment which Si-hyuk established back in 2005.
The company rebranded into HYBE in March 2021. During its rebranding last year, the company announced that it acquired Ithaca Holdings and its properties including SB Projects, the company that manages Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber.
Aside from HYBE in Korea, the company now has subsidiaries in other locations namely HYBE AMERICA and HYBE JAPAN.
It has various labels under its business division which include BIGHIT MUSIC, BELIFT LAB, SOURCE MUSIC, and PLEDIS Entertainment, among others. It also owns solutions like HYBE 360, HYBE IPX, and HYBE EDU, among others. HYBE also owns the entertainment platform Weverse.
BTS debuted in 2013 under Big Hit Entertainment. In 2018, BTS became the first all-Korean act to reach the number one spot on the US Billboard 200 with their album Love Yourself: Tear.
The group also made history in 2020 and became the first Korean group to reach the US Billboard Hot 100 with their song "Dynamite."
In 2021, they were nominated for the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the Grammys for their hit song "Dynamite." They were also nominated in the same category at the 2022 Grammys for their song "Butter."
