Chesca Garcia got candid about the challenges that she went through in her In vitro fertilization (IVF) journey.
The actress and her husband Doug Kramer have been trying to have another child through IVF but it failed three times.
In an interview in Magandang Buhay, Chesca admitted that the three failed pregnancies through IVF have been particularly hard for her, especially that she is the one carrying the embryo.
"Kasi ako 'yung nagca-carry eh because in your mind actually, when they put the embryo you are already pregnant, you are just waiting for it to grow and become a baby talaga so I think it's very hard for women who are doing IVF and expecting because you have a two-week wait window. Doon sa two weeks na 'yon, you are hoping that your period will not come. Kapag dumating siya ibig sabihin fail siya," she said.
Chesca added that it's particularly difficult for a woman if the IVF fails because there is an invested emotion already.
"My last one, my third one, I was really hoping that I was pregnant because I actually missed my period. But when I did the pregnancy (test) I was not pregnant. But I already know the gender of my baby and everything. So it's a very hard journey for anyone who's doing IVF simply because may wait period. Kapag nag-fail siya, may invested emotions ka kasi," she stated.
When asked if they are trying IVF for the fourth time, she responded, "Alam mo, it's actually what I'm praying for. Actually, the last failed one talagang sinabi ko, 'Lord, if you don't want us to have a baby anymore please remove the longing and the wanting of having a baby' because I also want to be obedient to the Lord."
Admitting that though she still has that desire to have another child, Chesca said that they are setting aside their baby plans at the moment.
"Because sometimes things don't go as planned because He has a good reason for it. And I also want to be an obedient daughter and follower, di ba? But still I still have that longing you know but for now I'm going to be setting it aside," she said.
Chesca also added that their challenging IVF journey also affected their kids, relaying, "Also now that I have my three kids, they are also going through something, they also go through something kasi 'yung expecting, 'yung excitement and everything. Especially my last one, my son si Gavin, he didn't want to hug and hold me because he said, 'I thought I'm gonna be a kuya na.' And I said, 'Gavin, I also want to be pregnant, mommy also wants to be pregnant but you know it's not for me to tell and you know let's take this as a way to thank the Lord that He probably is protecting mama also.' Tapos hinug niya ako tapos sabi niya, 'Sorry mommy I was just really hoping to be a kuya.'"
It was in 2019 when Chesca and Doug revealed that they are trying to have another baby via IVF.
"It's gonna be a long and complicated process so please keep us in your prayers. We're doing steps to get pregnant again! Chesca's been ligated since Gavin... Getting pregnant almost 2 straight years with Scarlett and Gavin took a toll with Chesca's body so we decided to have her ligated. But it's been 6 years and we did the necessary steps to check if her body is ready and healthy now," the couple shared on their Team Kramer Facebook page back in 2019.
