Ruffa Gutierrez will be graduating from college in July.
The actress shared the news during her stint as a judge in the "Sexy Babe" segment of It's Showtime when she was asked by the hosts on why she was not on the show the other day.
“Naku, nag-aaral ako. I had academic deadlines! Practicum ko na. Tomorrow ang last day ko," she said in the show on Thursday, March 3.
“I’m graduating college in July,” she revealed.
Ruffa is completing her Bachelor of Arts major in Communication Arts at the Philippine Women’s University under the Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program (ETEEAP).
“At least hindi na lang ako high school graduate. Pero, excuse me, 13 years old naman nagtatrabaho na ako, ‘di ba. [It’s] never too late!” Ruffa remarked.
It was in May 2021 when Ruffa shared via social media that she had returned to school to finish her studies.
“After 34 years of working in the entertainment industry, I have chosen to further my education. Not only do I want to fulfill a long-held dream and take control of the next chapter of my life, I want to set a good example for my children. I hope you can support me in my new journey," she posted in May of last year.
In an interview in Magandang Buhay last February, Ruffa remarked that studying again has been "very fulfilling."
She revealed that it was a "special someone" who encouraged her to finish her studies.
"Para siyang mentor, kasi sabi nya, 'alam mo matalino ka, [bakit] ayaw mo mag-aral ulit? Tapusin mo 'yung college mo,'" she stated.
Ruffa added that her daughters Lorin and Venice serve as her biggest inspirations in finishing her college degree.
"For them to just express na they appreciate you, napakalaking bagay non," she said.
Ruffa started her career as an actress when she was still a teengager in the 1980s.
She became a beauty queen in 1990s and was hailed as second runner-up at the Miss World 1993 pageant.
She also starred in several television series as an actress and as a host.
