Reliving her high school years in her latest digital series The Seniors, Julia Barretto said she learned a lot of important life lessons during that part of her life.
“Siguro one of the important things that I learned in high school that I kept with me all these years especially being in the world that we’re in now is staying true to who you are and keeping your feet on the ground. I think kaya ako nakabuo ng friendship sa mga hanggang ngayon kaibigan ko pa rin kasi nga nung pumapasok pa lang ako ng high school, nagpakatotoo na ako kung sino ako and I feel like the friends that I still have until now love me for that. So I think entering the business, it’s also such an important factor to stay true to who you are and have your own individuality because it sets you apart from everybody else. People can hate you but definitely there will be people who will love you for who you are,” she said.
Just like her character Diana in the show who transfers to a high school in the province from Manila and gets bullied by a group called “The Certified,” Julia said that people should always fight against normalizing bullying.
“Stand up for yourself. Don’t take it personally. Usually the bullies are the ones who really have a problem. Talk to somebody about it and don’t allow it. Don’t tolerate being bullied. You show them you can’t be bullied and ignore. Ignorance is bliss. So let them look the way they already look being a bully but don’t take it personally. Usually sila ang may problema. Just pray for them,” she explained.
With a busy career despite the pandemic, the 25-year-old actress revealed which former co-star she is most interested to work with again.
“If there’s anybody that I’ve missed that I’ve worked with before, siguro si Ms. Iza Calzado. I worked with her a couple of times before and she’s remained to be one of my good friends from the business. She’s like an ate to me. Like a mom most of the time also. We keep in touch and she also sends me her good energy and her love. Alam naman natin lahat kung gaano kaganda yung energy ni Ms. Iza. So she always makes me feel na she’s still very much present and around. Although she’s very busy now. Two months na siyang naka-lock-in for Darna,” she said.
